we have been through hell and back with my parents setup of Vonage as they were unable to transfer the number from Comcast to Vonage, claiming the number could not be found (coming from Vonage's Third party telco. ) This ordeal went on for 2 months with at least 20-25 hours on the phone with Vonage buffoons at customer service. So we give up and decided to cancel.
1. If you cancel in the first 30 days and return the equipment within 14 days of cancellation the $39.99 disconnect fee is waived.

3. If you cancel in days 91 to 1 year you are still charged a $39.99 fee and you keep the equipment at no charge to you.
4. If you cancel after 1 year you are not subject to a disconnect fee and you keep the equipment.
For some people it is a good deal, for others, pure hell and aggravation, something which my elderly parents surely don't need.
I'd say if you are tech savvy and don't mind long waits and poorly trained csrs and have a LOT of patience, go with Vonage. Otherwise, stick with the good ole land line.
