The company’s wings are also extended to UK and Canada. The company was originally founded in January, 2001 in Edison, New Jersey but it is now presently located in Holmdel, New Jersey.

The Vonage Company was founded in the year 2001 by Jeffrey A. Citron. He was appointed as the company’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. The company found its first Residential customer in the year 2002 and it also launched its services officially on March, 2002. The year 2003, becomes a landmark in the company’s history with its offering of the first ever VoIP platform for the 911 calls.
Vonage expanded to Canada in the year 2004. It also became one of the first companies to offer VoIP Services in the nationwide retail stores. It launched the Mexico City and London virtual numbers. In the year 2005, the company launched its
Wi-Fi phones. The company also fulfilled its social responsibility by donating numerous Vonage phones to the devastating Katrina victims. It also expanded to UK in that year.
Vonage launched the virtual phone numbers throughout Western Europe in the year 2006.It introduced the Vonage V-Phone in the same year. The company went public on May 24, 2006. The company’s handling of its post-IPO handling of individual investors resulted in various class-action lawsuit. The good news for the company was that it was successful in acquiring three key VoIP patents from Digital Packet Licensing Inc.
The company created a stir when it launched the Vonage Visual Service in 2007. it also launched its Free to Compete campaign and V-Access during that year. It announced with Motorola about a Co-Branded Internet Telephone Adaptor with Wireless Router. The company till recently held the most subscribers with more than 2.4 million subscriber lines. It was taken over by its rival Comcast and now it posses the highest numbers of VoIP subscribers.
