  • Vonage is the name given to the voice over IP network as well as SIP company that is running on a commercial level and provides telephone services through broadband connections. The name of this public company also highlights on their motto that is "Voice-Over-Net-AGE". The foundation of Vonage Holdings Corporation was laid by Edison, NJ in the January of 2001.  Its headquarters are located in Holmdel, NJ. The people holding important positions in the company are Jeffrey A. Citron is the Chairman, Interim CEO, Chief Strategy Officer as well as the Co-Founder. John S. Rego and that of the CTO by Louis Mamakos occupy the position of CFO. It is basically a communication service industry, which is able to do a business of $607.397 million in 2006. In the year 2005 Vonage was reported to be comprised of 1416 staff members and its official website is www.vonage.com.

Vonage carries out its business in many countries as "Vonage the Broadband Phone Company" as well as "Leading the Internet Phone Revolution." Comcast has excelled it by having a comparatively more number of subscribers. Till the very latest updates Vonage had no less than 2.4 million subscriber lines and has already dealt with more than 5 billion calls. For getting the services of this company one has to buy a "VoIP router" of the Vonage brand. However, even a  phone adapter can also be put to use to provide connection to the main router or broadband modem.

The other requirement is an upload speed of 30–90 kbit per second and a good QoS optimized connection to permit the flow of calls with absolutely no lag or jitter. Vonage further underwent expansion in Canada in April 2004 and to UK in the year 2005. The company also declared its intentions to opt for 10%  layoffs. Its share were made available to the public for $17 per share on May 24, 2006 and the very next day the prices came down by 23.5 percent landing up at $13 and the ultimate closing price reached was marked at $3.00 on 25 March 2007.

The IPO of Vonage was awarded at the fourteenth place among the 101 Dumbest Moments in Business for 2006 by the magazine namely Business 2.0. The drawback of the emergency phone service provided by Vonage necessitates the subscribers to maintain their address with the company and this service is of no help during the problems related with Internet connection.
