I'm sorry to hear that you are having such trouble with your
tracerbullet,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having such trouble with your rt. I agree with you that there are only a few options left.
1. The rt is DOA.
2. The rt is misconfigured (somehow)
3. It is incompatible with your cordless phone
4. The rt is incompatible with your modem.
5. Vonage has entered in the wrong MAC address into their database and so your rt is not yet activated.
I am sure there are more options but these are the ones that come to mind.
I will suggest of course that option 1 is our last option.
Jeckler has a good suggestion but if your phone 1 light is not solid right now, changing the type of phone would be irrelevant. In other words, when I power up my rt31p2 with only my cable modem on, the both phone line lights blink about 3-4 times before line 1 light becomes solid.
**Very important** In my brief experience with the rt31p2, I noticed that when my computer is on and plugged into ethernet port 1 of the rt, the phone light does not engage when it boots up and therefore I get no dial tone. I have to unplug the computer ethernet plug from port 1 while the rt31p2 is booting up.
I would suggest trying that if you have not already done so. Your post does not specify that you have tried this.

If it still fails to get a solid light for line 1 then do the following:

If you don't get a solid line 1 light, then call Vonage and ask them to verify that they can access your rt. If they cannot access your rt something is wrong on their end. Double check their activation and see if they can mess around with your rt. This will resolve option 5.

One simple alternative is to go to a neighbor who has a different modem but has broadband internet to see if the rt can "call home" and get an active phone line 1. That way you can see if there is any incompatibility with your modem or setup.
I will await your feedback before trying some other options.

ps fyi, the mac address being cloned is not the same as the MAC address on the bottom of the router. The cloning procedure is necessary at times because cable operators do not permit the use of more than one computer to access the internet by recording the MAC address of the original computer into their database. Thus when you clone the MAC address on the rt, it now is communicating with the cable company "acting" or "cloning" your NIC. You certainly do not want to clone the MAC address of your cable modem as you found out.
