Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

September 30, 2005

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest. Today we will look at an article that tells us exactly how many new Vonage subscribers bring their old phone numbers with them when they sign up.  In our popular Friday In the Blogs feature, we review what some of the VoIP bloggers we read regularly have written about this week. Finally, we'll look at a new Vonage VoIP Forum thread in which one reader who just transferred his phone service to Vonage couldn't get a ring tone on his incoming calls - and what he did to solve the problem.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

September 29, 2005

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

Today we will read about a new charitable effort involving Vonage and a Canadian telecom reseller that specializes in working with charities and non-profits. In case you missed it, I am rerunning yesterday's news in which the U.S. Federal Communications Commission said it was extending its deadline for Vonage and other VoIP service subscribers to acknowledge they understand the current limitations of E-911 access over VoIP.   We'll look at Vonage VoIP Forum threads from Forum Members with questions about firmware, and about choppy service. Finally, we'll take a look at our Customer Reviews section, and what one reader in Harrisburg, Pa. had to say about his Vonage service (and about lawyers).

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

September 28, 2005

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

Lots of news today, so let's get busy. Today we will read about the FCC extending its deadline for Vonage and other VoIP service subscribers to acknowledge they understand the current limitations of E-911 access over VoIP. We'll read an article about why the head of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission thinks VoIP services are an important part of the nation's security. Once again, we'll look at all this talk about Vonage making themselves a public company and selling stock.  We'll look at Vonage VoIP Forum threads from a Forum Member who had been trying to solve a bug in Vonage's Click2 Call feature, as well as from a Forum Member and student with a question about Vonage's CallerID.

We'll also read about why the U.S. Government wants the right to tap your Vonage calls. We'll hear about an in-kind donation made by Vonage to Hurricane Rita rescue efforts. We'll look at A Vonage VoIP Forum thread from a Forum Member who wants to extend the range of his Wi-Fi setup- and some very helpful but differing suggestions about how he can do this.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

September 26, 2005

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest. Wow, the weekend went by quickly.

Before we get to this issue, I have some great news. Yesterday, our 17,000th member joined us. Join me in welcoming ptr727 to the Vonage VoIP Forum. We look forward to reading your posts, ptr727!

Today we will read the results of a survey that shows decision makers at small to medium size businesses are more likely to think about companies like Vonage rather than older phone companies.  We'll also find out how a Vonage-sponsored race car driver with a very famous name did yesterday. We'll look at Vonage VoIP Forum threads about Vonage's performance during Hurricanes Rita and Katrina, as well as a user who has worked out a solution that lets the Asterisk VoIP PBX solution work with his Vonage SoftPhone. And finally, we'll meet our Vonage VoIP Forum Member of the Week.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

September 22, 2005

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

I'm just back from a drive up to Boston and a fascinating day at the Fall VON (Voice Over Net) trade show, and a visit with a family member who was surprised to see me!

Today we will read about what Vonage CEO Jeffrey Citron spoke about during his keynote at the Fall VON conference. We'll see what some investment bankers recommend as a wise strategy for Vonage going forward.  We'll read a Vonage VoIP Forum thread on a question a Forum Member has about the possibility of making simultaneous calls, and a thread in which a Member is looking for a solution to "beeping" during Vonage calls.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

September 20, 2005

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

You'll never guess where I am right now. I am on the Interstate, driving to Boston to attend the Fall 2005 VON (Voice Over Internet) trade show. Lots of new gizmos and other stuff that you can, or soon will be able to use with your Vonage service.  I've pulled over to a donut shop off one of the highway exits, where I am filing this edition from my laptop over my Verizon high-speed connection. Might even grab a donut after I send this file off to our Web host..

Today we will read about what solution Vonage has chosen to enable a key component of its E-911 service. We'll also learn about some equipment Vonage will use to test VoIP over Wi-Fi. We'll read a Vonage VoIP Forum thread on a router that automatically resets itself at the same strange our in the middle of the night – every night. Another thread we'll look at concerns a Vonage user who can't seem to get a dial tone.

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest. Wow, the weekend went by quickly.

Today we will read suggestions from Vonage CEO Jeffrey Citron about how Vonage technology might be deployed in rebuilding New Orleans' devastated telecommunications infrastructure. We'll look at what one U.K.-based publication sees as likely buyers for Vonage- should the company ever decide to go that way. We'll look at Vonage VoIP Forum threads in which Forum Members ask about Vonage video calling, as well as Vonage SoftPhone. And finally, we'll meet our Vonage VoIP Forum Member of the Week.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

September 16, 2005

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest. Today we will look at a new bill being drafted in the U.S. Congress that if passed and signed, will have a major impact on Vonage, and VoIP in general. In our popular Friday In the Blogs feature, we review what some of the VoIP bloggers we read regularly have written about this week. Finally, we'll look at a new Vonage VoIP Forum thread about why Vonage service fades in some parts of a user's home, and how to boost network speeds on Vonage setups that involve the router-like Apple Airport appliance.
