Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

February 2, 2006

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

In the news, we'll catch up on some new areas Vonage has equipped for emergency 911, and then for local Vonage numbers in Arizona and Colorado. We'll also catch up on what a committee in Colorado's legislature decided yesterday about whether it will or won't allow cities in that state to tax services such as Vonage. We'll also point you to Vonage Forum threads on LEDs on routers that don't blink like they should, and about whether or not a used Vonage router can be reprogrammed with a new MAC (Media Access Control) address.

Lots of news today, so let's get started.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

February 1, 2006

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

First, I have some really good news. On Monday evening about 8:25 p.m., we picked up our 17 millionth page view since we started the Vonage Forum nearly three years ago back in March, 2003. Because we hit 16 million page views back on January 5, that means that we accumulated one million page views in less than a month!- 26 days, as a matter of fact! Every time you click on a new page here on the Vonage Forum, that's one page view.

I wasn't able to capture a screen grab of our Page View counter when we hit that 17 million mark, but I did manage to take a screen shot when we hit 17,000, 001. Here it is!

Now, it is time for us to get to one of the reasons for all those page views: to catch up on Vonage news as well as what you have been reading and talking about in the Vonage VoIP Forum. In the news, we'll catch up on Vonage's market share, learn about a major U.S. metro that's just received Vonage local number capability, and a big promotion for prospective Vonage subscribers in Canada. We'll also point you to Vonage Forum threads about power interruptions and router setup.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

January 24, 2006

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

Before we get to today's usual diet of important news and helpful threads, I wanted to bring you up to speed on some changes we are making.

As you all know, this site is not an official Vonage® site.
Over the past three years I have enjoyed a somewhat informal relationship with Vonage regarding this site.
Now that Vonage has become the powerhouse entity that it has, it is time for some changes on this site to help further distinguish vonage-forum.com from Vonage Holdings and to clearly establish vonage-forum.com for what it is:

"This Site is exclusively owned and operated by 4Sight Media LLC and is no way endorsed, sponsored, provided, owned or otherwise controlled by Vonage. For official information on Vonage Services please proceed to the Vonage website at www.Vonage.com."

You may have recently noticed some minor changes on this site; a new logo that specifically states "an independent support site" and a few other things. Over the course of the next few days you will begin to see other changes, most all cosmetic.
More specifically, you may notice the removal of all Vonage logos and trademarks including those used in the forums for member rankings.
This is being done rightfully so to respect and to protect the value of the Vonage trademarks.

I tell you this so you can understand why parts of this site are changing and also as a friendly reminder that at the end of the day, the focus of the content of this site will remain "Vonage".
But most importantly that you remember:

"www.vonage-forum.com is not an official Vonage® website & is independently operated."

Now, let us get to today's Digest.

In the news, we'll tell you about one state that wants to tax Vonage users. We'll also examine new Vonage Forum threads on changing your Vonage number right after you sign up, and alternatives if you want someone you know overseas to use Vonage Softphone.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

In the news, we'll describe one expert's prediction that companies like Vonage will be the standard bearer for VoIP- and the older phone companies will have to scramble in order to catch up. We'll also point you to an interesting Vonage Forum thread about a mysterious slowdown of Internet connection speed, as well as a thread from a reader wanting the lowdown on QoS settings for the equipment he is using for his Vonage service. Finally, this being Monday, we will introduce you to our newest Vonage Forum Member of the Week.
