Vonage Marketing, a subsidiary of Vonage Holdings Corp., a leading provider of broadband telephone service in North America has chosen Excell Services to provide its customers with Enhanced Directory Assistance Services, including movie listings, stock quotes, sports scores and more. This also includes regular number queries as well as address and reverse searches. Furthermore, Vonage customers now have access to Directory Assistance services for all of North America as well as many international destinations through the Excell Services network.

I am intrigued by what might be called cottage-industry globalization, perhaps because I just ran into an example.

Globalization has two aspects. One is the rapid shifting of high-tech work -- software development, circuit design -- to India and China. The other is the use of technology to outsource nontechnical jobs.

Recently, I introduced a friend, a bright computer type in Northern Virginia, to a Mexican woman who teaches Spanish to foreigners in Mexico. Woody had gone to Mexico as a tourist, loved it and decided he wanted to learn Spanish. Back in Virginia, the lowest price he could find for one-on-one instruction was $50 an hour. Not good.

Abbott to race opener with Michael Crawford Motorsports:

Michael Crawford Motorsports, the youngest team in the Indy Racing League Indy Pro Series, has signed Mishael Abbott to drive in the season-opening Miami 100 March 26 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Abbott, a 24-year-old from Coral Springs, Fla., also will test the team’s No. 8 Indy Pro Series machine at the facility March 4 and 6 in the series’ first Open Test of 2006.

Vonage Marketing, a subsidiary of Vonage Holdings Corp., this week sealed two deals.

First, Vonage has contracted Excell Services to provide its enhanced directory assistance services such as movie listings, stock quotes and sports scores. Capabilities include regular number queries, address and reverse searches, and directory assistance for all of North America as well as many international destinations.

Second, OfficeMax has agreed to sell Vonage starter kits. The office supply store is offering the Linksys PAP2 Phone Adapter or the WRTP54G Wireless Router, configured with Vonage’s service.

Vonage Marketing, subsidiary of Vonage Holdings Corp., has become a sponsor of the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
The 2006 Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, which will be held on a 14-turn, 1.8-mile temporary street circuit, will feature the second round of the 14-race Indy Racing League IndyCar Series.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
