Vonage Calls for Improved Choice for Internet Users

July 13, 2005

By Adrian Baschnonga

Research conducted by US-based VoIP player Vonage shows that some two in three British internet users are unhappy paying for both line rental and a broadband subscription, claiming that this is 'unfair' in an open market. The survey shows that only 37% of end-users believe there is genuine choice when it comes to home telephony, in contrast to 75% for mobile services and 57% for electricity.

July 14, 2005

Research has revealed that two thirds of UK Internet users are deeply unchuffed about having to pay a BT line rental on top of their broadband subscription.

The stating-the-bleeding-obvious revelation was the conclusion of an online survey of more than 1,000 broadband subscribers in the UK who were questioned in June 2005 by online research company, TickBox.

Gadgets - How I'm Wired

August 1, 2005

By Emily Hiesh

Name: Jennifer Prentiss

Occupation: Software Company Exec.

Location: New York City

When Jennifer Prentiss abandoned a career in investment banking for a job t a fashion-related software company 7thonline.com, she was determined to leave her clunky desktop computer behind, too. “As soon as I changed to a more style-focused business, I felt I needed gadgets that not only worked well but also looked great,” she says. With that in mind, Prentiss quickly amassed an enviable array of sleek gear, from the space-age camcorder she uses to capture footage at retail conferences to the featherweight laptop that accompanies her everywhere she goes. Recently, we tagged along with the 29-year-old as she shopped for goods to add to her electronic arsenal – and revealed a few favorites already in her collection.

Vonage Calls For 'Naked DSL'

July 13, 2005

By Tim Richardson

Vonage is calling on BT to cut the cost of telephone line rental branding the charge "unfair". It claims people should be able to take just a DSL line without having to pay for a telephone service as well.

The broadband telephony outfit wants "naked DSL" to be available to broadband users so they can choose to subscribe to a VoIP service instead of a traditional fixed-line service.

UK Internet Users Object to Paying for BT Line Rental and Broadband

July 13, 2005

By Staff

Research has revealed that two thirds of UK Internet users are unhappy about paying BT line rental in addition to their broadband subscription, according to Vonage, a broadband phone company.

More than 1,000 broadband subscribers in the UK were questioned online in June 2005 by TickBox, an online research company, on Vonage's behalf. The research showed that only 37% of Internet users believe there is a real choice of telephony provider, in comparison with 72% for mobile phones. Vonage has called for 'Naked DSL' in the UK to enable consumers to subscribe to telephone and broadband services independently of each other.

VoIP E911 Goes Live in New York City

July 8, 2005

By Heather Forsgren Weaver

WASHINGTON - As the telecommunications industry and public safety met Thursday to discuss how to implement a Nov. 28 deadline for Voice over Internet Protocol providers to offer enhanced 911 to their customers, VoIP users were able to access 911 in New York City.

"The deployment of the VoIP E911 solution in New York City represents a significant milestone in the evolution of 911, providing VoIP subscribers in New York City with the same level of emergency response as traditional wireline service," said Stephen Meer, co-founder and chief technology officer of Intrado Inc., one of the parties involved in the New York City deployment.

Verizon Communications Inc. and Vonage Holdings Corp. were also involved in getting VoIP E911 in New York City up and running.

 Vonage Reportedly Eyeing Australia

Vonage Eyes Australia, Courts Web Chatters

July 7, 2005

By Staff

Reports from down under suggest Vonage is preparing a launch in Australia, which would become the fourth country in which it is active (following the United States, Canada and the U.K.). Meanwhile, Vonage inked a pact with chat-room specialist Paltalk, under which its VoIP service will be offered to those of the roughly 3.5 million Paltalk users who live in the countries served by Vonage.

The indications that Vonage is looking at Australia came in a report in the Australian Financial Review that Vonage hired executive search firm Shakers Recruitment to help it hire “a group of operations, finance and marketing executives to launch the company in Australia in the coming months.” Vonage hasn’t commented publicly on the report or discussed its Australian plans.
