Bargain Bonanza

April 23, 2003

By staff

Bill Hemmer, CNN Anchor: For a guy who made millions before the age of 31, Clark Howard knows an awful lot about pinching pennies. The best-selling author has been called America's money-saving expert. He's got a new book out. It's called "Clark's Big Book of Deals," and a bit earlier today, he shared some his latest money-saving advice for us.

HEMMER: Clark Howard, in New York City, great to see you here.

One of the points you make in your book is that it's not what you earn, it's what you spend.

CLARK HOWARD, AUTHOR, "CLARK'S BIG BOOK OF DEALS": Right, The measurement of welt is no what your paycheck says; it's what you keep after your paycheck. So many times what do we do? We get our paycheck, and before it's even in our hands, it's gone.

Internet phone service may finally connect with callers

April 17, 2003

By Vikas Bajaj

Never mind that the Vonage Internet-based phone service offers unlimited domestic long-distance, low international calling rates and a host of innovative features.

The most impressive thing about this one-of-a-kind system is its simplicity.

From the moment you open the box and connect a special Ethernet converter to your broadband Internet connection, there are few complications. I had a dial tone within minutes. After testing the service for several weeks, during which I made numerous phone calls around the country and overseas, I hit only minor snags.

Online News Briefs

April 17, 2003

Carat Interactive, one of the world's largest interactive agencies, has been selected by Vonage for digital marketing services. Based in Edison, New Jersey, Vonage is redefining communications by offering phone services directly to cable and DSL high-speed modem subscribers. The broadband phone service provider has lured 20,000 customers since launching Vonage Digital Voice™ one year ago. Carat Interactive created and launched an advertising campaign designed to motivate potential customers by informing them that there is a viable alternative to their costly and complicated home phone service. The campaign uses larger rich media ad units including leaderboards, targeted messaging units, and skyscraper ad executions to emphasize the unlimited national and local packages offered by Vonage.

911 support for Vonage phone service

Vonage In Print NewsApril 3, 2003 SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Addressing a major problem with telephony services that rely exclusively on the Internet, one such service now allows users to call 911 in an emergency. Internet telephony company Vonage now routes 911 calls to the nearest answering center based on the address information provided by the customer. In the past, Vonage customers heard a rapid busy signal when dialing the emergency number.

An Alternative To The $*£=&%! Phone Company

April 7, 2003

By Frank Beacham

From day one I was skeptical of telephony over the Internet. It was not just the poor audio quality of those early calls, but I never felt comfortable that the Net's infrastructure was robust enough to support reliable telephone service.

Then, last summer at a trade show, I was lured into the booth of a small New Jersey-based IP telephony company called Vonage. I was offered a free phone call and took up the offer. To my surprise, the call sounded just fine -- no different from the best connection one normally gets on a standard telco landline.

Companies Try To Reduce Costs With Online Phone Service

April 1, 2003

By Sanford Nowlin

Until recently, making a phone call over the Internet was the domain of the die-hard technology geek or the tinkering hobbyist.

In exchange for cheap long-distance calls, one had to put up with tinny sound quality and spotty reception.

But technology has advanced, and voice-over-Internet protocol (VoIP) - the practice of sending digitized phone calls over the Internet like a piece of e-mail - is emerging as a key part of the telecom landscape.

Businesses increasingly use VoIP to manage their phone networks. Long-distance carriers use it to handle international calls. And upstart telecom companies tout it as a cheap way for consumers to make long-distance calls.

Third-Party Providers Lead Charge Into VoIP Business

Vonage In Print NewsBY Alan Breznick, Editor, Cable Datacom News Cable operators may be waiting till next year to offer voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) service to subscribers. But not everybody is waiting that long. Tired of spending months, if not years, trying to convince cautious MSOs, phone companies and other broadband service providers to sign affiliation deals with them, IP telephony firms are striking out on their own. The firms, led by publicity hog Vonage Holdings Corp., are boldly rolling out VoIP services for consumers and businesses in major markets throughout the U.S.

Internet phone company leads pack with good offers

Vonage In Print News BY Teresa McUsic In my continuous search for cost-effective local and long-distance telephone service, I found one company that may be setting the stage for a revolution in how we get our phone calls. It's called Vonage. And instead of transmitting over the copper wires maintained by SBC, Vonage moves phone calls over your broadband Internet hookup.
