Corporate Logos: The Selling Power of Orange

Vonage In Print News

November 1, 2003

By Mark Walsh

Corporate America may be blue about the downturn, but corporate logos don’t have to show it. Want to look vibrant and innovative? Go orange. When Palm palmOne, it dumped its blue logo for an orange and red one. MCI ditched everything but the orange in its reorganization. Cingular, Vonage, and the subtly named British mobile carrier Orange all emphasize the hue. In the latest Pantone color preference study, the prized younger demographic said that vermilion orange made them feel “energized.” Things weren’t always as peachy; orange used to mean affordability - think Howard Johnson’s or a 1972 Duster. But then again, those are hip now, too.

 Vonage Service Available

Vonage In Print News

By Don Reid

Coldwater -- The equipment is in and City One Telecommunication is ready to roll out connections for internet telephone service through Vonage Telecommunication, Manager Lindy Cox said Tuesday.

"We already have had a number of calls about the service," he added.

With cable television and internet cable service, "adding a product like this really rounds out our service offerings and provides our customers with more choices for how to spend their hard earned dollars In these tough economic times every penny counts and this could save some people serious pennies," Cox explained.

The Next Big Telecom Buildout isn't Just Talk: Massachusetts Tech Firms Position

Voice Everywhere:

October 24, 2003
By Tom Iglehart and Maureen Condon

Ever since Alexander Graham Bell rented out the first telephone line in Boston in 1877, the way we communicate by voice hasn't changed much. Now, a handful of Massachusetts entrepreneurs, and their global colleagues, want to change all that.

Theirs is a simple and yet explosive idea: Convert the phone system from an old-fashioned appliance that does just one thing into a massive computer that can do lots of things. Surprising to some, this conversion is well on its way.

Injecting Intelligence into the Broadband Service Delivery Infrastructure

Vonage In Print News

October 24, 2003
By Staff

It’s clear that broadband is rapidly gaining market acceptance. Residential cable modem and DSL subscribers in the U.S. and Canada reached 23.9 million by the end of June, according to figures released by research firm Kinetic Strategies Inc. Those numbers will continue to climb, as a recent study by the Pew Institute indicated that 43% of dial-up users are interested in upgrading to broadband.

With a fierce battle emerging among service providers to use the broadband infrastructure to deliver the triple play of voice, video and data services, a number of new applications and service delivery models are emerging.

Retail Trials for Vonage; New Router Coming Soon

October 23, 2003
By W. David Gardner

VoIP provider Vonage Holdings is broadening its reach in retailing as it promotes trials in Radio Shack and Best Buy stores. And, the Web phoning company is awaiting a new router that it believes will kick up its sales considerably.

The company said a trial in a “limited number of Radio Shack stores in the Philadelphia area” has been underway for a few months while another trial is ongoing at some Best Buy stores in California and Florida. “It's pretty early to tell,” said Matt Deatrick, Vonage's Vice President of retail channel sales. “Typically we're finding what we find on line. People will leave the store and will consider it for one or two weeks” before buying.

 Internet Phones Peachy In Georgia?

Vonage In Print News

October 22, 2003
By Ben Charny

The Georgia Public Service Commission has ordered local phone provider BellSouth to let customers buy broadband services alone, which some claim is a win for the growing number of people using Internet telephone providers.

Before the Georgia regulator's ruling, anyone buying digital subscriber line (DSL) broadband service from BellSouth was required to pay for a telephone line, whether they wanted it or not. Internet phone providers claimed that the added cost was a deterrent for anyone wishing to subscribe to a voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) plan, a cheaper form of dialing that uses the Internet rather than a privately owned telephone network.

Internet Phoning Begins To Click: Flurry Of Activity By Big Players Hoping To Lure Customers With New Technology

October 22, 2003
By Andy Riga

It's still early days, but the telecommunications industry expects many of us to be using the Internet for our phone calls in coming years.
That explains a flurry of recent activity by such big players as Bell Canada and TELUS Corp., which hope to lure customers with new technology known as voice over Internet Protocol or Internet-Protocol telephony.

New Connections: Phone Calls Made Over The Internet Are The Latest Telecom Buzz

October 21, 2003
By Leslie Brooks Suzukamo

For Jon Benfer, switching his phone service to save money was a "no-brainer." But the option he chose surprised his friends and family.

The 34-year-old Minneapolis business coach doesn't use a phone company anymore. Instead, he connected his phone to his broadband cable service last April and began making cheaper phone calls over the Internet.

 Others Debut Besides Office

Vonage In Print News

October 21, 2003
By Mark Kellner

The release of Microsoft Corp.'s Office 2003 productivity suite today will garner reactions from yawns to cheers — I'm closer to the cheering side. But there are two new products that deserve close examination by those wanting more order for their workday.

The first is PlanPlus, a software program from FranklinCovey that works inside of Microsoft Outlook. It adds the Franklin Planner system's "prioritized daily task list" and daily journal pages to Outlook, while retaining the e-mail browsing and address book capabilities of the Microsoft-created personal information manager. While Outlook has a to-do list feature, there are advantages to the FranklinCovey system, such as better prioritization.
