How To Get Your Marketing Budget & Tests Approved By The CFO

April 14, 2004

By Staff

Over the past six months, nearly every marketer we've interviewed in about their career has bought up the same exact point, "You have to have a solid relationship with your CFO to get ahead."

Great, so how do you do that? We contacted a CFO to ask him.

“We have a very interesting relationship, we work on it every day,” says Vonage CFO John Rego of the company’s CMO, Dean Harris. “Dean sits close to me, he can scoot over any time and ask a question.”

Assembly Will Hear From Phone Companies On Future Of Hard-Wired System

April 14, 2004

By Joel Stashenko

The future of reliable, affordable landline telephone service could be at stake with the possible sale of upstate New York's primary hard-wired phone systems, a state assemblyman says.

Assemblyman Richard Brodsky planned a public hearing Wednesday to quiz executives from Verizon-New York and Vonage about the possible sale of landline systems and what kind of purchasers may take them over.

State Public Service Commission Chairman William Flynn, whose agency has to approve the transfer of any facilities operated by regulated utilities in New York, is also scheduled to appear before the Assembly's corporations committee.

Comment & Analysis
A Disruptive Technology - How The Rise Of Internet Telephony Is Shaking Up America's Communications Giants

April 13, 2004

By Demetri Sevastopulo and Paul Taylor

Net technology has galvanized the US telecoms industry.

As AT&T and others race to capture the market in next-generation telephony, Paul Taylor looks at the likely winners and losers. In 1984 the US telecommunications landscape was transformed by the break-up of the Bell telephone system, a court-mandated move that forced AT&T to spin off its local telephone operations and ushered in a new era of competition in the local and long-distance telephone markets.

Twenty years later, the telecoms market is on the verge of another revolution, driven this time by the growing use of internet technology for voice telephony. Michael Powell, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, has described Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephony as a "disruptive technology" that is likely to bring fundamental changes in both fixed line and mobile telecoms.
