the house isnt too large. 2500 sq ft. the jack that i am using is maybe 20 feet away BUT when i get home tonight i am going to check the demarcation point. comcast came out to hook up my modem and they thought i was getting their Voip service so he messed with the box outside. i wasnt there and so i could see exactly what he did...but im thinking that something might have been messed up out there. the phone line voltage is like 45 volts or something like that isnt it? what is the drop needed in order for the unit to sense the on hook and off hook signals...i would think that if that is the problem then it has to be right on the edge. is there a way to tell the adaptor to look for a slightly lower voltage?

thanks again for the quick responses. i'll post again with my findings/new problems found this evening.

My guess is it could be the wiring or one of the jacks. 1st, make sure the telephone
so i went to the demarcation point and it looks the the wires are connected correctly.
Okay - The wires at the demarc point SHOULD be disconnected if you're going to use
