Post subject: Vonage got my DirecTV series Tivos to dial out
I have two SDVR40's and a HR1-250 that I wanted to use
Vonage
with. I had tried all the codes to 'slow' down the connection but as noted they don't work with series two Tivo's. Finally got a tech that would work with me and they changed the packetization rate on my line2 (I wanted to use my FAX line for the Tivo's). They still failed to connect if I called my local access numbers but if I changed it to a long distance number (used NYC and I'm in the Chicago area) they all would connect for the test and daily call. One box did fail on one daily call but I had it retry and it worked.
Further discussion with the tech basically said that the change allows the
Vonage
line to use a broaded frequency range which allows for better modem connections. This increases the bandwidth needs from the normal 90Kbps to 128Kbps. He did say that I could pass along the incident number, 910603, to have your tech reference to see what change was made. But before doing this you must make sure that your internet connection can handle the 128Kbps connection without any problems. Good luck - RAD
