hello..newbie..sorry for the question if it has been answered. I too am a vonage user and have the following equipment:

Hughes DVR
Phillips DVR x 2

both of them are a series 1 tivo. Everytime I try to do a connection it comes back failed..the cisco unit lights red...but then eventually times out and says connection failed. I did try one code that gave me a different result ,#0341 it told me connection busy..can anyone guide me as to how to make this work? thanks in adavance! Smile

taaars, you are lucky because you have series 1 tivo's, therefore you can buy and use a TurboNet card to hook them up to the internet though your LAN. Check out http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/ for all kinds of answers to you questions. It's a great forum. Hope that helps.

thanks!
hunting through the forum now...but still haven't found the specifics, but if I understand you correctly you are saying that I can forgo my phoneline connection and simply do the inital download and furure updates through my home network? I gather through the USB ports that are "not supported" by either tivo or directn..hehehe. that would be cool if I understood correctly...in the meantime I will still hunt..thanks!!

P.S.

I was going to try that reverse dsl filter thing as well..since I have few laying around...but this wont work with tivo 1 units I gather

I have a series 2 (with the useless USB port Mad ). If you already have some DSL Filter laying around, try it. I've had good result both forward and reverse with them. I went from not being able to connect to connecting 95% of the time and completing the call about 30% of the time. It's a pain, but it's cheap. Very Happy

We have a SA series 1, and the Vonage small business package (with the free fax line).

We messed around with external modems, and codes, etc...and finally, went to Turbonet. Get it...it is FAST. The series 1 SA are out of warranty anyway, and we have a lifetime TIVO, so paying 70- for a Turbonet card was perfect!

We popped in the TurboNet card (you will need a Torx #10 or 15 screwdriver to get the casing off), and typed ,#401 in the dialing prefix, and BAM...it dialed and got data faster than a speeding bullet!

This is what some of the codes are for but there are others that do not slow the modem down.

For most series 1 DTiVos all that needs to be done is:
Enter *99 as a call waiting prefix
Enter ,#019 as a dialing prefix.
That works most of the time.

If the above has problems connecting you can, sometimes, improve connection by adding ,, after the ,#019 .

In 7 DTiVo setups I have done with Vonage I have never had to go to an external modem.
*99 is the code to force your ATA into the highest possible bandwith (doesn't do anything if you have your connection set to the highest in your dashboard). Call waiting is disabled by the code *70. You might want to put a comma (pause) at the start of every command.

#019 slows the modem down, it does work for series 1 units.

None of these settings helped with my DirecTV TiVo (Sony SAT-T60). I use the PPP through the serial connection on the rear of the box. Works every time. That can be found at this thread and 2 posts below for the link on how to set up a PC.

Ok, I bought a standalone Series 1 with no hard drive off ebay thinking it would be no prob to image a new drive and set it up. Good lord this was not the case. After a full day of trying to get the image right, it finally randomly worked.

The only problem was that we don't have a phone line. So we decided to get vonage (it was 60 bucks with a 50 dollar rebate - now i know why)

We tried every prefix, area code, number we could find for hours. Finally i got the tech support for vonage on the phone and had them change the packetization rate (he also did some other "tweaking" but didn't tell me what it was).

He told us that it wasn't likely i was going to connect, but good luck.

I tried something i saw on here and voila....it worked.

I set my area code for NY (212)
Call Waiting Prefix: ,#019*99
Dialing Prefix: (set to ny POTS line number, somewhere on here, don't remember)
The other two options i turned off, and of course it was set on tone.

I wish that there was an actual fix for vonage/tivo/fax, but it seems like its just completely random whenever the tivo feels like properly making the handshake.

Good luck to everyone Exclamation

chaney, have you tried going to http://www.tivocommunity.com and doing a search for "Vonage". I found all kinds of good info there to help get my DirecTivo working with Vonage. Also, above all, with a DiecTivo, dispite what DirecTV says, you do not need to have a phone line hooked up to it!!!! Very Happy

I wish that were true, but I've been without a working phone connection to my Hughes DirecTivo for a couple of weeks now and if I try to schedule something, the unit complains about not having made a successful call in some time.

This post was the source of my success but i had to tweak it. here it is:

I'm in queens, NY but
Area Code: 212
Dialing Prefix:,#019*99 (pause,Enter,0,1,9,clear,9,9)
Call Waiting Prefix:,*70 (pause,clear,7,0)
Set Tone/Pulse: Tone
Set ... Avail....: off
set dial detect...: off

at next step select 10 digit dial (xxx-xxx-xxxx)

I have tried everything that I found on this site (and the tvio sites) and have had no luck.

I have a SAT-T60 and an hd10-250 and both fail to connect.

I tried the fireware and it didn't help. I think that tivo net may be my only help for the t60 but it isn't supported on the hd10-250. I am also going to get the vonage guys to change my packetization level since that has help many with Alarm issues and may help here (and I also need to get my alarm working Smile )

Any other ideas?
