Forgive me for the humor, I realize you are probably asking if there is a number you can dial in to set call forwarding on your phone, but my initial reaction was,

You're out of the office and you want to set up forwarding; You're in luck with Vonage's new Psychic Configuration Service (PsyConfig). Our psychics are on duty 24-7 reconfiguring your phone options. Your very thoughts are their commands.
Note: psychic phone configuration does not work with SoftPhone and does not support E911.

What I don't get is (I thought) the linksys device was a sipura under the hood.. and they:

The SPA Supports Key Telephony Features:

* Terminating Impedance Agnostic - 8 Settings
* Call Waiting, Cancel Call Waiting
* Caller ID with Name / Number
* Caller ID Blocking
* Call Waiting Caller ID with Name / Number
* Call Forwarding: No Answer / Busy / All
* Do Not Disturb
* Call Transfer
* Three-Way Conference Calling with Local Mixing
* Message Waiting Indication - Visual and Tone Based
* Call Return
* Call Back on Busy
* Call Blocking with Toll Restriction
* Delayed Disconnect
* Distinctive Ringing
* Off-Hook Warning Tone
* Selective / Anonymous Call Rejection
* Hot Line and Warm Line Calling
* Speed Dialing of 8 Numbers / Addresses

Anyone know why linksys is so protective of their linksys RT31P2 devices? You can't even just purchase one for your own use....

Since you can't get call forwarding by dialing a * code or similar from the phone, is there a way to develop a program that, say, would allow me to modify the call forwarding settings from my desktop? Say a program that, in Windows, resided in the "notification area" and when you right click on it you can choose the delay before call forwarding starts!

Right now, I have to open a web browser, log into my Vonage account, go to the features page, click the button next to call forwarding, and change it to Instant every time I leave the house. and of course, a similar procedure must be followed when I return.

I just keep the call forwarding at 20 secs in case I forget to change it. But a lot of people out there will hang up after 4 rings if there is no answer and give it no chance to forward. Plus, the phone will ring 40 seconds before going to voicemail with that setting :X Luckily, with my setup, I almost never have a call that makes it to voicemail.

Yes, this program could be written.

My account activity program already logs in, all that would have to be changed is what it does next Wink .

Well, nice to know it can at least be done Smile It would be a great feature to have.

I was pretty sure it could be done. There is that voicemail program out there that gives you a smooth interface to online voicemail, it somehows logs in and gets voicemail messages.

What do you use to access the web site, etc.?

I program in Java because of "Write Once, Run Anywhere" and because it has all of the required networking functionality built in. Basically you are just building a simple web browser with preprogrammed commands.

From there it is a simple matter of managing cookies and parsing screens to get to the information you want. The ideal way to do this is with regular expressions that are stored outside the program in resource files. That way if the pages change the expressions can be updated with less concern about introducing errors.

The drawback of using Java is lack of native access to things like the System Tray (as you described in your scenario). This would require the use of a Windows specific library and make the code non-portable. That is a real buzz kill for me.

I have to stand with vonageNJ. It is a problem. Likewise, I find myself away from the phone longer than I expected and can't get back to my desk to turn on call forwarding over to the wireless. I miss a lot of calls that way and then have to spend even more time sorting through the voicemail. Such is life!

To answer matth, the telephone features we enjoy do not necessarily reside within the phone adapter. They are a Vonage process.
