Vonage steve - those two fees are the 911 fee and the regulatory recovery fee. i saw

steve -

those two fees are the 911 fee and the regulatory recovery fee. i saw them on my online invoice.

the RRF is a .99 fee per physical line (virtual numbers don't count, woohoo!) that is mandated by govt
the 911 fee is a fee collected by Vonage to set up your 911 service. i'd gladly pay 99 cents a month to make sure my 911 works if i ever needed it!
i personally live in NJ so i have state tax and state 911 tax as well, that adds up to two or three extra dollars a month.

you're right - Vonage is designed to be low cost. but, they have to remain competitive. nobody's going to fly Vonage skies if there's no features like caller id, call forwarding, voicemail, etc - some WILL, sure, I don't like using voicemail, i'd rather push the button on my answering machine - but i'm sure you get my point.

i'm sure if they HAD to, they could operate for less, but that would mean no features. think of it as a flight from new york to paris. want to use the bathroom? think of that like voicemail. that'll be 5 dollars a month, please. want a bag of peanuts or crackers (aka caller ID)? another 5.

to implement all these features i'm sure Vonage gets a much better rate to blanket the entire network with the features rather than having to pick and choose based on account where they go.

the bottom line?

Vonage is about 30 a month. verizon was about 90. verizon now has some new plan that's about 45 to compete with Voip providers.

comcast in my area is about 45 too after that 12 month sample - but i don't WANT digital cable, so i'd be paying more in the end.

if i ever DID leave Vonage i'd probably go to a low-rate verizon dsl plan with their package for 3 down, 768k up. Comcast has us locked at 350k up and I don't really download all the time so I won't notice the difference between 3MBPS and 4.5MBPS.

But, I'm not going to think about moving from Vonage - i've had perfect service for over six months

Vonage Newest Plan for Satisfied customers check this out! :-D
Where did you hear about the annual rate? I couldn't find any reference to it on
Hi Jim! From a friend who tried to call Vonage asking if they could match an offer
That works out to $19.99 a month, is this unlimited if not then not a great deal.
Yes it's unlimited although will check from my friend or by calling Vonage for
Also, does it include taxes and fees? Vonage is beginning to eat us alive with fees.
Hey Steve, what fees are you talking about? I would think that price is before
Yes, its an annual unlimited plan. And the price quoted is BEFORE taxes and fees(911
This is only available in the U.S, I figured as much since here in Canada we have
No, but Sheezhot may have been quoting a total. Right now I'm paying a total
