Vonage singe606, I got the same thing - a message from Vonage saying they needed a confirmation

singe606, I got the same thing - a message from Vonage saying they needed a confirmation number from Verizon (see my Sep. 4 post). I was not hopeful that Verizon would give me one. And, of course, you don't want the DSL service removed to start with, which is what the confirmation number would be for.

I spent a few weeks wondering if I would hear from Verizon, but not hearing from them, and mulling over what I should do. Then I just decided to reply to Vonage saying
- I had not received a confirmation number from Verizon.
- I was frankly not expecting to receive one, or for Verizon to be cooperative in any way in my effort, or for their phone associates to even know anything about the process were I to call and ask.
- Nonetheless, I knew that the local phone number request was possible.
- Couldn't they just put the transfer through? And that I really wanted to be a Vonage customer.

I got a reply from Vonage almost immediately stating "We have received your updated information for your number transfer request. Thank you for supplying the necessary information."

Then about 2 weeks later I received confirmation that my LNP request had been approved and would be completed in about 3 days. I had my doubts up to the very end as to whether the process would work, but now I'm up and running (finally) with naked DSL.

You have to be patient! Below is the timeline I ended up having. Good luck!

9/1 - Changed payment method on Verizon account to paper-free (credit card) billing.

9/1 - Signed up for Vonage service online, including local number portability (LNP) request.

9/1 - Received e-mail confirmations from Vonage (one for credit card processing, one for 911 activation).

9/2 - Received e-mail from Vonage stating that I needed to complete a letter of agency (LOA) for the transfer online. Completed the LOA online.

9/3 - Received e-mail from Vonage stating that "there are issue(s) with your number that are preventing the transfer to Vonage" (namely, that DSL was currently associated with my number).

9/3 - Replied that my area was eligible for 'dry loop with announcement' or 'naked DSL.'

9/3 - Received another e-mail from Vonage stating that I still needed to obtain a confirmation number from Verizon.

9/19 - I wrote back asking them to try it anyway (as detailed above).

9/19 - E-mail thanking me for providing updated information (which I hadn't) and confirming that they were moving forward with my number transfer.

10/4 - E-mail received confirming that LNP request had been approved by Verizon and that the transfer would take place 10/7.

10/7 - Transfer completed as scheduled. Now when I plug a phone directly into my phone jack, I hear an announcement that this is a dedicated data-only line and calls cannot be placed.

Another question for you, kesco. Why did you change your Verizon account to credit
Because or else Verizon DSL would have no way to bill you except via USPS, which
