EDISON, N.J. -- Vonage, the broadband phone company, today announces the activation of 50,000 total lines on its network.

With the addition of more than 2,000 lines to its network every week, Vonage’s active line base has reached 50,000, further defining it as the leader in the broadband Internet telephony industry. Vonage’s call volume has recently hit 60 million completed calls across its SIP network and continues to grow at an exponential rate. This represents over half of all broadband telephone lines and calling activity nationwide, according to a June 2003 Merrill Lynch report. Consumers and small businesses are increasingly looking to Vonage as their broadband alternative to traditional telephone service.

“Activating 50,000 broadband telephony lines is a milestone for Vonage and a milestone for the industry," said Jeffrey A. Citron, chairman and CEO of Vonage. “With over 2,000 lines being activated and over 2.5 million calls being completed through our network every week, Vonage is demonstrating the viability of broadband telephony and the demand for our affordable unlimited calling plans, flat-rate pricing and unique features."
