 Vonage Wi-Fi Handset

Vonage In Print News

December 14, 2005

By Rhonda Ascierto

It's been a long time coming, but Vonage Holdings Corp has now announced its first WiFi VoIP mobile phone, in partnership with Californian networking gear maker UTStarcom Inc.

The WiFi handset enables Vonage subscribers to make calls from any free WiFi hot spot, but it will not work within paid-only WiFi zones, such as Starbucks.

Vonage is pitching the F1000 at enterprises, which can set up a wireless LAN network on campus. Vonage executive VP of product development Louis Holder said companies could set up access WiFi points for about $100 each, which give about a 100-yard coverage.

Vonage Releases Combined VoIP and Wi-Fi Phone

Vonage In Print News

December 14, 2005

By Grant Gross

Vonage has produced a combined VoIP and Wi-Fi phone, letting customers make calls in areas covered by wireless hotspots.

The company has partnered with UTStarcom to develop the F1000 portable phone handset, configured with Vonage's VoIP service. The F1000 can be bought form Vonage's website for $79.99 with a $50 instant rebate.

The new phone will let Vonage customers use their phones away from broadband connections, making it far more portable. "The idea is to give customers more choices," said Louis Holder, VP of product development. "It's like a portable phone - they can put it in their pockets and walk around."

Vonage Joins Web Phone Fray; Wireless Wi-Fi With New Product

Vonage In Print News

December 14, 2005

By Jon Van

A new phone that makes mobile calling over the Internet easier was launched Tuesday by a subsidiary of Vonage Holdings Corp., which hopes to capitalize on ubiquitous urban wireless broadband.

It's another move by the upstart firm to challenge staid telecom giants like AT&T Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc. that have seen their traditional landline phone business shrink as more customers turn to the Internet and wireless phones for communication.

Vonage's new product, which looks like a cell phone and will sell for about $80, enables a customer to make calls using wireless Wi-Fi broadband connections. Customers can pay $25 a month for unlimited calls or $15 for 500 minutes.

By David Sims

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Vonage has released a new phone "that makes mobile calling over the Internet easier."

According to the Trib, Vonage's new product "looks like a cell phone and will sell for about $80." It lets customers make calls using wireless Wi-Fi broadband connections, so it's not quite as mobile as cell phones as it only works at hot spots.
