Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

January 18, 2006

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest. Today we have news in which Vonage's CEO says Vonage is working "at a breakneck pace" to establish national E911. We also have a news item where we introduce you to the new coordinator of Vonage's tv advertising from the ad agency side of things. We'll also point you to Vonage Forum threads from a happy new Vonage customer whose experiences are quite common, and another thread from, well, "nobody." So, let's get started!

Internet-based telephone company Vonage Marketing on Thursday said it added enhanced 911 service to Maricopa and Pinal counties.

 Vonage Claims ‘Breakneck’ 911 Progress

Vonage In Print News

January 13, 2006

By Staff

In tracking its nationwide progress to meet the Federal Communications Commission order that Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service providers handle 911 emergency services, Vonage says, as of yesterday, it’s turned up enhanced 911 services in more than 1,900 official public-safety answering points (PSAPs) that field the public’s emergency calls.

Vonage Marketing, a subsidiary of Vonage Holdings, says its current U.S. figure includes recently added 911 calling capabilities in 41 PSAP call centers in 25 new counties during a one-week period, reflecting the industry’s rush to comply with the FCC order that went into effect Nov. 28, 2005. Since that time, Vonage says it has coordinated its efforts with PSAPs across the country to turn on E911 for as many customers as it can.

 Finding an Internet Phone Service

Vonage In Print News

January 12, 2006

By Kelly K. Spors

Q: How can I find a cheap and reliable Internet phone service? -- Greear Cossitt, McLean, Va.

A: Voice over Internet protocol services may save you money, especially if you make many long-distance calls. With VOIP, calls are routed through the Internet. Depending on the plan, you either talk through the computer with a microphone or with a regular phone, using an adapter. Some services provide the equipment free. Monthly rates can vary from free (for calls to VOIP users) to up to $50 for unlimited calling and certain features. Overseas rates may cost extra, but are generally low.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

In the news, we'll tell you about a big assignment from a major Vonage partner, and note what Vonage's venture capital funding rounds say about the company. We'll also point you to Vonage Forum threads about how to solve the problem of lower phone volume when someone picks up a Vonage extension, and an example of a thread we often see here where a prospective Vonage user is asking other Forum Members about what they think about the quality of Vonage calling in their region. We'll also point you to a "sticky" thread that tells you what information you should provide when you start a thread describing a problem you may be having with your Vonage connection.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

January 16, 2006

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

First, I have some interesting news. On Saturday, we recorded our 60,000th post since we started the Vonage Forum back in March, 2003. Since we only reached 50,000 in late October, 2005, that means that you've made 10,000 posts in the last 2 1/2 months. I think that's great. Keep those posts coming!

As you may have noticed, we've changed our signage a bit. I wanted to make sure that each and every one of you Members and site visitors- and there are many more of you these days- was clear that the Vonage Forum is an independent support site, not part of Vonage. Our new logo reflects that.

In the news, we'll tell you about Vonage's latest market-leading market share among VoIP providers. We'll also point you to Vonage Forum threads in which two of our expert Vonage Forum members authoritatively answer a new Member's concerns, and another thread that points to some articles written by another one of our Members about Vonage-related technical issues that frequently come up as new Vonage Forum Threads and post. And this being Monday, and speaking of helpful Vonage Forum Members - we'll introduce you to our Vonage Forum Member of the Week.

Vonage Adds E911 in 2 Counties

Vonage In Print News

January 13, 2006

By Staff

Vonage, the nation's largest provider of phone service using Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, has added E911 capability for users in Fulton and Spalding counties in Georgia. The New Jersey-based company announced the upgrade Thursday as part of several others nationwide. E911 service allows callers to have their address become automatically available to emergency service providers. A lack of E911 service has been one of the worries associated with the growth of VoIP service.

Vonage(R) Now Provides Emergency 911 Service in Over 1900 Calling Centers

Vonage Press ReleasesHOLMDEL, N.J., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Vonage Marketing, a subsidiary of Vonage Holdings Corp., a leading provider of broadband phone service, today announced that it has turned up emergency 911 service in over 1900 PSAPs across the country. In just one week, Vonage equipped an additional 41 calling centers, in over 25 new counties, with 911 calling capabilities.

In June, the FCC gave Vonage, and all Internet-based phone service companies, 120 days to create an E911 system from scratch, and provide all of its customers, wherever they are in the U.S., with E911 service. In that amount of time, Vonage worked closely with local 911 centers, also known as Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), across the country to turn on E911 for as many customers as it could.
