Switching to the Net Cut Jim's Phone Bill

Vonage In Print News

March 28, 2006

By Emma Lunn

We’ll soon be ringing the changes in the way we make phone calls.

Using the internet to phone family and friends is tipped to hit the mainstream this year -and it will slash bills. That's on top of the price war predicted this summer after Ofcom removed the shackles from BT and allowed them to set their own charges.

More than ten million households now buy phone services from BT's rivals. About a third of all calls are made on mobiles but calls via the internet are growing fast.

Vonage is another service that slots a regular phone in-between your broadband connection and a network router. If you don't already have a router you can buy one from Vonage for a much discounted £14.99, but if you're running broadband via a USB modem you'll also need a new Ethernet modem to hook it up (available for around £30-£40).

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

March 28, 2006

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

In the news, we'll look at what Vonage and a leading consumer electronics retailer are doing to raise consumer familiarity with Vonage and with VoIP in general. We'll check in on a top-performing Realtor who found Vonage a home, and checking in on an auction where the proceeds may enable less fortunate folks to find homes, too. We'll look at two Vonage VoIP Forums threads- one about compatible phone equipment for the Vonage service, and the other about some call waiting issues a Vonage Forum Member has been experiencing.

Demos Called Key To VoIP's Retail Success

Vonage In Print News

March 27, 2006

By Greg Scoblete

The three keys to merchandising VoIP at retail are education, education and education, according to service providers, vendors and retailers.

Call-quality issues have been vanquished, but there is still a lingering perception among consumers that VoIP call quality is inferior, said Huw Rees, 8x8's sales and marketing VP. “Once people hear a VoIP call, they're shocked at how good it is,” added Bob Laikin, chairman/CEO of distributor Brightpoint.

Harking back to a strategy used by some retailers when AT&T gave up its monopoly on landline-phone sales, CompUSA has dedicated space to demonstrate working phones from Vonage and 8x8 to show customers how VoIP works and let them place calls directly in store to anywhere in the world, said Brian Woods, Comp-USA's merchandising executive VP.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

March 27, 2006

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

First, I have some interesting news. On Saturday afternoon we logged the 70,000th post to the Vonage VoIP Forum. Way to go!

In the news, we'll see how Vonage Canada is reacting to some new recommendations put out by the Canadian governmental body that oversees the telephony industry. We'll also see how a racing team co-sponsored by Vonage did over the weekend. We'll look at two Vonage VoIP Forums threads about router issues. And finally, this being Monday, we'll meet our latest Vonage Forum Member of the Week.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

March 24, 2006

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

First, I have some great news. One of the oldest (early 1990's) online newsletters and certainly the most authoritative Long Distance Industry website called The Digest has picked the Vonage Forum as one of the Top 10 Telecom Websites. Here's what William Van Hefner; the editor of The Digest has to says about us:

"This has actually become quite a watering hole for those using VoIP services over the past 6-8 months. No longer just a message board, it now carries quite a bit of original content and news about VoIP in general. You will often see VoIP issues mentioned here days earlier than they appear in the mainstream media. Although it still has a fairly high "signal to noise ratio", it is often worth digging through the haystack to find a needle here."

Well, you won't have to dig through any "haystacks," because we do that for you every business day here on the Digest. Speaking of,  in the news, we'll see where a Grand Prix race car co-sponsored by Vonage will be competing this weekend. Today is Friday, the day for our popular In The Blogs Feature. We'll also go over an Vonage VoIP Forum thread about . And finally, we'll tell you about how you can "Digg" what you read on the Vonage Forum.

Vonage UK Launches Virtual Phone Numbers

Vonage In Print News

March 23, 2006

By Staff

Got friends in Europe? Do you like to call them now and again? Then European virtual phone numbers from VoIP telephony firm Vonage may be of interest.

The service is essentially as described - you can now get a virtual phone number in addition to your current Vonage number in an area of your choice. So, if you have a friend in Milan, get a virtual number for that lovely city and you can talk away at local rates to your heart's content.

Clooney Donates Oscar Loot To United Way

Vonage In Print News

March 23, 2006

By Howard Gensler

YESTERDAY, Tattle was assailed as a "liberal" because we mentioned that President Bush's environmental policies may actually be bad for the environment.

So today we will wear our "L" badge proudly and commend "liberal" George Clooney for doing something Tattle has been begging celebs to do for years - he donated his Academy Awards gift bag to charity.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

March 23, 2006

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

In the news, we'll see what kind of effect Vonage's growth is having on investors who hold stock in older phone companies. We'll also tell those Vonage users who live in two large New Jersey counties how they can get their name in the paper. We'll also cover two very interesting Vonage VoIP Forum threads about different types of connection issues. And finally, we'll go to a thread that announces a contest where I will credit the winner with a free month of Vonage phone service!
