 Virtual Numbers

Vonage In Print News

February 20, 2006

By Staff

Vonage is launching virtual numbers with area codes from Austria France, the Replublic of Ireland, Italy and Spain. This gives Vonage customers in the UK, US and Canada a European 'presence', allowing friends, family and business associates based abroad to call them for the cost of a local call.

Use Internet Phone Plan To Cut Costs

Vonage In Print News

February 20, 2006

By Eric Gwinn

Now is the time to hang up that landline and switch to Internet phone.

It may sound futuristic, but using an Internet phone service is as simple as plugging the phone you have now into an adapter, then plugging that adapter into your broadband network and calling any other phone in the world, even cell phones.

Why, you ask, would anyone do this? Because it's cheap.

Saving money is the key to Internet phone calls. Because Congress doesn't tax the Internet the same way it taxes phone lines, calls over the Internet are cheaper than traditional calls.

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

In the news, we'll check up on Vonage's E911 progress.  We'll also go over an interesting Vonage VoIP Forum thread about switching routers, and another thread with feedback from a Vonage user about the performance he has been getting over the broadband Internet service of a regional provider another Vonage Forum member was curious about.

Denver Residents Can Now Say “Buh-Bye” to BellSouth and Hello Vonage

Vonage In Print News

February 19, 2006

By Jason Saine

Vonage America, a subsidiary of Vonage Holdings Corp., a leading provider of broadband phone service, last week announced that almost all of its customers have basic 911 service and a majority of them have Enhanced 911 - a feature that automatically associates a physical address with the calling party’s telephone number.

In just 90 days, Vonage has equipped an additional 1,061 locally run calling centers, in over 360 new counties, with E911 capabilities, which brings the total number of calling centers within the 911 service area to over 3180.

As Voice over IP (VoIP) continues to grow in popularity, you can expect to see a raft of new related products hitting the shelves over the next few months. Vonage is keen to promote its VoIP service as a viable alternative to traditional landline calling and is about to launch the Wifi Phone in conjunction with handset manufacturer Utstarcom - it’s actually been available in the US for some time now.

The Wifi Phone is about the same size as most mobiles and features a Nokiastyle button layout.

Vonage® Now Provides Enhanced 911 Service To A Majority Of Its Customers

Vonage Press Releases Holmdel, NJ, February 17, 2006 – Vonage America, a subsidiary of Vonage Holdings Corp., a leading provider of broadband phone service, today announced that almost all of its customers have basic 911 service and a majority of them have Enhanced 911 - a feature that automatically associates a physical address with the calling party’s telephone number. In just 90 days, Vonage has equipped an additional 1,061 locally run calling centers, in over 360 new counties, with E911 capabilities, which brings the total number of calling centers within the 911 service area to over 3180.

In June, the FCC gave Vonage, and all Internet-based phone service companies, 120 days to create an E911 system from scratch, and provide all of its customers, wherever they are in the U.S., with E911 service. With the help of the FCC’s aggressive time line, Vonage worked closely with local 911 centers, also known as Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), across the country to turn on E911 for as many customers as quickly as it could. Currently, Vonage continues to test and turn up new PSAPs which are VoIP-ready every day and will continue to do so until Vonage customers have access to E911.

 Talk Gets Cheap

Vonage In Print News

March 1, 2006

By Wilson Rothman

Much to the telephone company's chagrin, there are now plenty of ways to get phone service for a fraction of the price you're used to. The cable industry is one new competitor, but the cheapest alternative is over the Internet.

Most Net phone services work just like regular phones do. You get a local number (in many cases, your old one). Sound quality and reliability are equal. The only difference is that you plug your phone into an adapter that connects to a cable or DSL modem. This does limit the number of places where you can set up your phone, but cordless users should have no problem.

Marco Andretti, Paul Dana Complete Test at Homestead

Vonage In Print News

February 16, 2006

By Staff

Bombardier Rookie of the Year candidates Marco Andretti and Paul Dana completed a successful two-day test at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Feb. 15.

IRL officials conducted the test in order to evaluate each rookie driver in traffic. Veteran driver Michael Andretti also participated in the test.

“It was a fun two days,” Marco Andretti said. “The purpose of our test was to give me some time running the No. 26 ArcaEx car in traffic, and we accomplished that. I got to run wheel-to-wheel with dad and then we ran some laps with Paul Dana, as well.”
