Vonage Holdings Corp. of Holmdel, the country's largest Internet telephone service, is getting even bigger. The company said Wednesday that it has crossed the 1.5 million mark for lines in service.

Last year was a breakout time for Internet telephone services, with the number of U.S. subscribers more than tripling to 4.5 million and industry revenue surpassing $1 billion.

Vonage Holdings Corp. said Wednesday that it has exceeded 1.5 million lines in service.

That's not surprising, given that the number of VOIP customers has more than tripled, according to data released by the Telecommunications Industry Association released this week.

According to the TIA, customers of residential VOIP services topped 4.2 million in 2005 and will grow by 43.9 percent to 18.0 million users in 2009.
