By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

First, I have some good news. In the wee hours of Sunday morning, we got our 19 millionth page view here on the Vonage Forum. page views since we launched the Vonage Forum back in March, 2003. Every time you read a page on the Vonage Forum, that's one more page view. Let's see.. we reached our 18th millionth page view on February 22, so it took us only 19 days to get to 19 million!! So let's see how quickly we can get to 20 million!!

In the news, we'll find out what a leading analyst thinks about who is really responsible for phone company innovation- companies like Vonage or the major traditional phone providers.  We'll also go over interesting Vonage VoIP Forum threads about routers- one thread about solving a router connection delay issue, the other about a fairly unknown router with a chipset that seems to make it work great with Vonage service. And since this is Monday, time for our newest Vonage Forum Member of the Week.

To the award-winners in your life who didn't make it to the 78th Oscar bash, you can give some of the same goodies showered on this year's guests.

The items in the presenters' Academy Awards swag bag, including 66 gifts and 13 trips, were worth about $110,000. Here are some you may be able to afford:

Vonage® Equips Over 100 New Counties and 400 Calling Centers With E911

Vonage Press ReleasesNearly 65 Percent of Vonage Customers Now Have E911

HOLMDEL, N.J., March 7 -- Vonage America, a subsidiary of Vonage Holdings Corp., a leading provider of broadband phone service, today announced that nearly 65 percent of its customers now have Enhanced 911 service -- a feature that automatically associates a physical address with the calling party's telephone number -- and that it is continuing to quickly equip new counties across the nation with E911 everyday.

For the past six months, Vonage has been turning up on average over 112 calling centers in more than 45 new counties each week. In February alone, Vonage equipped an additional 400 calling centers in over 100 new counties with E911 -- bringing the total number of calling centers across the nation with E911 service to over 3400, which is more than half of the nation's calling centers. While it took Vonage less than a year to turn on E911 in more than one-half of the nation's PSAP's, it took the wireless industry 10 years to accomplish the same feat.

Vonage In Print News

I don't care for or watch the Oscars because the movies I enjoy never seem to be considered, and I can't stand seeing those who live in a fantasy world fall all over themselves.

There was something a bit geeky associated with the Oscars, though, as the Chicago Sun Times describes some of the gear in the Oscar swag bag. The guidelines require each item to be priced at more than US$500 and the overall value of the 2006 bag is estimated at over $100,000.

 Internet-based services

Vonage In Print News

March 5, 2006

By Staff

What's new:The big news in calling home cheaply is "voice over Internet protocol" (VoIP) services like Vonage ( www.vonage.com ) or Skype ( www.skype.com ).

Since VoIP services generally work best with a broadband or wireless Internet connection, they are recommended for travelers who want to make calls from fixed locations, such as hotel rooms or a conference room - although they can also be used from Internet cafes or wireless hot spots if you have a notebook computer. (Some specialized VoIP services or phones like Vonage's Wi-Fi UTStarcom F1000 phone will work only at hot spots that do not require a user name or credit card.)
