Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

March 31, 2006

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

First, I have some great news. Yesterday afternoon, around 2 p.m. Eastern Time, we got our 20 millionth page view since the Vonage Forum started three years ago. Every time you click on a page here, that's another page view. Hey, keep it up!

In the news, we'll see how many subscriber lines Vonage has, and learn about a new Vonage subscriber survey that I hear is making the rounds. Today is Friday, the day for our popular In The Blogs Feature. We'll also go over an Vonage VoIP Forum thread about modem problems associated with a reader's Vonage service.. And finally, we'll tell you about how you can "Digg" what you read on the Vonage Forum.

Vonage Boasts One Million VoIP Customers With E911

Vonage In Print News

March 30, 2006

By David W. Gardner

VoIP service provider Vonage said Thursday that more than one million of its subscribers are equipped with Enhanced 911 (E911) emergency calling service, which automatically links a physical address with a caller's telephone number.

Vonage and other VoIP providers were instructed by the Federal Communications Commission last year to provide effective E911 service in the wake of incidents in which callers in need of emergency help were unable to establish their locations.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

March 30, 2006

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

As many of you readers already know, yesterday we hit the 25,000 Member mark of registered Vonage Forum Members since we started the Vonage Forum three years ago this month. One of those Members, NateHoy, won the contest we have been running to guess the exact time that we would reach 25,000. Yet in all the excitement of yesterday, I did not name the Member whose coming on board with all of us enabled us to exactly hit the 25,000 Members threshold.

The new Vonage Forum Member who got us exactly to 25,000 is JackB. Turns out that JackB has already made his first post. It's a good one. We'll mention it in our Vonage VoIP section below.

But for now, let us get back to business. In the news, we'll learn more about a new adaptor with router Motorola is introducing for Vonage service. We'll also cover the latest in the net neutrality debate, along with a brewing controversy abut whether or not the Central American nation of Belize is blocking Vonage service. We'll look at a Vonage VoIP Forums thread about that very issue, as well as about shipping Vonage equipment to another part of the world.

One Million Vonage(R) Subscriber Lines Now Have E911

Vonage Press ReleasesOne Million Vonage(R) Subscriber Lines Now Have E911 Vonage Now Provides Enhanced 911 Service to 70% of its Subscriber Lines

HOLMDEL, N.J., March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Vonage America, a subsidiary of Vonage Holdings Corp., a leading provider of Internet telephony service, today announced that more than one million subscriber lines now have Enhanced 911 (E911)* service - a feature that automatically associates a physical address with the calling party's telephone number.

In June, the FCC gave Vonage, and all Internet-based phone service companies, 120 days to create an E911 system from scratch, and provide all of its customers, wherever they are in the U.S., with E911 service. In that amount of time, Vonage worked closely with local 911 centers, also known as Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), across the country to turn on E911 for as many customers as it could. Currently, Vonage continues to test and turn up new PSAPs which are VoIP-ready every day and will continue to do so until Vonage customers have access to E911.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

March 29, 2006

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

First, I have some GREAT NEWS. At  this morning at 11:55am EST, we signed up our 25,000th Member.

Can't tell you what a great feeling that is.

As you know, we've been having a contest here in which we have asked Vonage Forum Members to guess exactly to the minute, when we would get that 25,000th Member to sign up. The winner gets credit for a month of Vonage service.

Well, it was real tight, but the closest guess was NateHoy's. He projected we would reach 25,000 members at Noon Eastern Time today. Well, he was just a few minutes off, just a bit closer than runner-ups mundy5 and rlstjohn. Honorable mention goes to scerruti for the funniest post in this thread. Thanks everyone for participating! We'll have another contest soon!

But for now, let us get back to business. In the news, we'll see which consumer electronics store will give away free Vonage kits tomorrow- and why they are doing this. We'll look at two Vonage VoIP Forums threads-both about different port-related issues.
