Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

June 5, 2006

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

First, I have a couple of announcements. On Saturday, we passed 28,000 members here on the Vonage Forum. Our newest member is cher513. Welcome cher513. We look forward to reading your posts!

By the way, we picked up 150 new Members on Sunday. That's our third-highest one day pickup in history, as well as our biggest pickup on a weekend. Given that not everyone is around a PC on Sunday to sign up, that's impressive!

I think lots of folks joined because of our new Vonage Speed Test. You'll find details below, right below our Vonage Forum post highlights.

In the news, we'll look at Vonage's rising stock price, Vonage's sponsorship of the World Cup broadcasts in the U.S., as well as a news about a newly appointed Vonage senior executive. We'll also go over a Vonage VoIP Forum thread about audio quality of some Vonage calls, and about equipment recommendations for using Vonage over Wi-Fi. And we'll also tell you about our new VoIP Speed Test- a test in which our most frequent posters- and the ones who have helped so many of you with their informative answers- helped me to get ready for launch. Finally, this being Monday we'll meet our newest Vonage Forum Member of the Week.

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

First, I have a couple of announcements. We have a new Vonage Speed Test. You'll find details below, right below our Vonage Forum post highlights.

Second, I wanted to let you know that May was the busiest month in the history of the Vonage Forum. Obviously in part due to the Vonage IPO, we received a total of 1,774,711 hits. Hey, June is busting out all over, so let's see if we can top that total for June!

In the news, we'll catch up on Vonage's stock, and controversies surrounding it.  Today is Friday, time for our popular In the Blogs feature. We'll also go over a Vonage VoIP Forum thread about what sounded like a router issue, but proved to be something else entirely. And we'll also tell you about our new VoIP Speed Test- a test in which our most frequent posters- and the ones who have helped so many of you with their informative answers- helped me to get ready for launch.

Over 80 Percent of Vonage U.S. Subscriber Lines Now Have E911

Vonage Press ReleasesVonage and PSAPs Continue Working Together to Turn Up E911 For Customers Across the U.S.

HOLMDEL, N.J., June 1, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Vonage America Inc., a subsidiary of Vonage Holdings Corp., a leading Internet telephony provider, today announced that over 80 percent of its U.S. subscriber lines now have Enhanced 911 (E911) service -- a feature that automatically associates a physical address with the calling party's telephone number -- and that it is continuing to quickly equip new counties across the nation with E911 everyday.

Over the past two weeks, Vonage has equipped an additional 85 locally-run emergency call centers, in over 30 new counties, with E911 -- bringing the total number of calling centers with emergency 911 service to over 4700.

In June 2005, the FCC gave Vonage, and all Internet-based phone service companies, 120 days to create an E911 system from scratch, and provide all of its customers, wherever they are in the U.S., with E911 service. In that amount of time, Vonage worked closely with local 911 centers, also known as Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), across the country to turn on E911 for as many customers as it could. Currently, Vonage continues to test and turn up new PSAPs which are VoIP-ready every day and will continue to do so until Vonage customers have access to E911.
