Matt Deatrick, Vice President Of Retail Sales For Vonage, Discusses The Value VoIP Brings To Companies, And Whether Telecom Regulation Is In Vonage's Future

March 1, 2004

By Christa C. Ayer

Highlight:

In 2003, for the first time, sales of communications servers that support IP exceeded sales of traditional Private Branch Exchanges (PBXs) that don't, according to Gartner analysts. By 2006, Gartner predicts sales of traditional PBXs will be relatively insignificant. What does this mean for the enterprise? It means Voice over the Protocol (VoIP) is fast becoming an accepted technology for telephone service.

Cable Companies Accustomed To Large Capital Outlays Are In For A Pleasant Surpri

Vonage In Print News

February 16, 2004

By Ted Hearn

Washington- Cable companies accustomed to large capital outlays are in for a pleasant surprise: the costs of rolling out Internet-protocol telephony service just keep plunging.

Cablevision Systems Corp. president Tom Rutledge last Tuesday said he continues to be amazed at the decline in costs associated with the rollout of voice-over-Internet protocol (VoIP), which could be the next big thing for cable. “I can't budget my capital costs low enough. I keep being shocked at how quickly the price of modems continues to fall [and] the cost of switching continues to fall,” Rutledge said at a conference here hosted by the telecommunications-analysis firm Precursor.

I used to cringe each month when I paid my telephone bill. It averaged $38, and for what? Call waiting, caller ID and local phone service. That's it.

Thirty-eight dollars!

 TechTest: Vonage Broadband Phone Service

Vonage In Print News

February 14, 2004

By Peter Grad

Talk is cheap. And thanks to the Internet, it's getting cheaper. It's taken some time, but reliable, crystal clear, and inexpensive Web telephony has arrived. And one company that's shown promise is Edison-based Vonage, which offers most features of traditional phone services. Its premium plan boasts unlimited calls to anywhere in the United States or Canada for $34.99 per month; other plans run $24.99 and $14.99. Company spokesman Jamie Serino said Vonage has signed up 100,000 customers since 2002 and estimates that it is adding 12,000 new subscribers monthly.

The VideoPhone Has Arrived - Almost

February 13, 2004

By Hiawatha Bray

Just about anyone with high-speed Internet access via cable modem or DSL line can pump voice traffic over the line, with the right equipment. And there's enough digital bandwidth left over for streaming video as well. Besides, a computer can compress the video and audio signals, allowing for decent fidelity with minimal use of bandwidth.
