Vonage Broadband Phone Service

April 1, 2004

By Jack Bettridge

You Make The Call: SIP, NCS And How They’re Different

Vonage In Print News

March 8, 2004

By Leslie Ellis

Last time, we examined why SIP, or Session Initiation Protocol, is the kind of new thing that this industry ignores at its own risk.

This time, we’ll dive into how a SIP-based call is different than an NCS-based call — where “NCS” is shorthand for network-based call signaling, the method predominantly used by the industry’s PacketCable 1.0 specification. (That means it’s the spec most MSOs plan to deploy and most voice-over-Internet protocol telephony vendors are building their gear around.)

It's not that Rob Shoenfelt has too little to spend on technology. The CIO of Ohio-based Celina Insurance Group says his 2004 tech budget is between $1 million and $2 million, "healthy" for a company that has $60 million in annual revenue and 150 employees.

 Vonage, Circuit City Team Up

Vonage In Print News

March 6, 2004

By Staff

With an aim to lure more people into Internet telephony, a US electronic store chain has announced that it would offer equipment for cheap telephone service from Monday.

The Chain, Circuit City, has linked up with Vonage, which will offer the service. Those who sign up with Circuit City will save $100. An adapter from Circuit City costs $100 but Vonage will offer the first two months of service free - saving $70 - and waive the $30 activation fee.

Circuit City To Offer Vonage Internet Phone Service

Vonage In Print News

March 5, 2004

Circuit City will offer Vonage's No. 1 Internet phone service in all its 600 stores starting Monday, giving the new breed of phone offerings its first national retail beachhead.

The move is expected to sharply raise the profile of the discount phone service, expand its fast-growing customer base and entice a somewhat less tech-savvy audience.

Vonage Goes Courting For Cable

March 10, 2004

By Colin C. Haley

Broadband telephony leader Vonage is looking to partner with a major cable operator in order to expand its service, an executive with the Edison, N.J., company said at a conference today.

"We'd love to crack a top-10 cable operator this year." Vonage CFO John Rego told analysts at Oppenheimer & Co.'s VoIP conference in Boston Tuesday.

Such a deal would give Vonage a new pipeline to offer millions of cable broadband subscribers its service, which requires a high-speed connection.
