EDISON, N.J. - Vonage, a U.S.-based provider of broadband Internet phone service, said Monday it has started operating in Canada. “For the first time, Vonage will begin shipping the Motorola VT 1005v device outside the United States,” Edison-based Vonage said in a release. “Canadian customers will also be billed in Canadian dollars and will be able to choose local phone numbers.

All Vonage customers, in Canada and the U.S., will receive the same 24/7 assistance from Vonage's customer care group.” CEO Jeffrey Citron said that for several months Canadian consumers have been requesting the ability to use Canadian phone numbers to use Vonage's broadband telephony service. The firm offers a basic residential phone plan for $19.99 a month, including 500 minutes of local, toll and long-distance calling throughout Canada and the United States.
