Vonage Exec Demos VoIP Over EV-DO Technology

June 8, 2004

By Heather Forsgren Weaver

WASHINGTON—Wireless Voice over Internet Protocol is here with the advent of Qualcomm Inc.’s CDMA2000 1x EV-DO service as deployed by Verizon Wireless, said Brooke Schulz, vice president of corporate communications for Vonage Corp.

Schulz demonstrated a Vonage VoIP call via EV-DO technology, brand-named Broadband Access, Tuesday morning as part of a breakfast panel sponsored by the New Millennium Research Council.

TELECOM: Internet Telephony Expected To Lead Wave Of New; Services

June 8, 2004

By David Hatch

Voice-over-Internet protocol (VoIP), a technology touted by its backers as nothing short of revolutionary, represents the first wave of Internet products to be deployed in the near future that industry experts believe could alter the communications marketplace.

VoIP, essentially phone service over high-speed Internet pipes, is creating sizable buzz in telecommunications circles because it offers lower prices and more options for users. Riding the technology wave is Edison, N.J.-based Vonage, which already commands 51 percent of the Internet telephony market, estimated to be at 300,000 to 350,000 lines.

Vonage Ceo: States Will Hurt VoIP Start-Ups

June 7, 2004

By Donny Jackson

State regulation could undermine efforts by new VoIP entrants to make business models work by wiping out venture capital funding in nascent providers, according to Jeffrey Citron, CEO of Vonage, currently the largest residential VoIP provider in the U.S.

Speaking at the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, Citron said a recent decision by the New York State Public Utilities Commission declaring Vonage a telecom corporation proves that states will regulate VoIP providers unless prohibited by the FCC or Congress. New York made its ruling largely to ensure that the VoIP provider meets 911 standards. A federal court in Minnesota last year ruled that Vonage is an unregulated information service, but Citron said he does not want to fight such battles in all 50 states.

Vonage VoIP Solution

June 4, 2004

By Joel Evans & Sam Evans

Intro
You've seen Vonage's website ads all over the 'Net (they've been dominating Geek.com, courtesy of our ad broker affiliate relationship), so by now you're probably familiar with the name and basic pricing details of the Vonage (pronounced "von-udge") Voice over IP (VoIP) service offerings. Vonage has been around for about 2.5 years and boasts over 250,000 customers, leading the field against some major (AT&T, Quest, Verizon) and "minor" (Net2Phone, 8x8) competitors. Vonage and its public relations firm want to double that subscriber number by the end of the year, which explains the media blitz and price cuts we've all been witnessing.

June 3, 2004

By Staff

The already inexpensive Internet-telephone service is about to get a little more inexpensive, with the announcement that Vonage is cutting the price of its starter kit to $30 at retail stores.

The company said the cost of starter package--an adapter and two months of Vonage service--has been lowered at 5,000 retail stores, including Best Buy, Circuit City, Fry's, and Radio Shack. The limited-time offer costs $79.99; a $50 rebate brings the final price to $30.

Vonage Cuts Price Of VoIP Starter Kit

June 3, 2004

By Staff

Vonage, the leading broadband telephony provider, today announced its Suggested Retail Price (SRP) at Best Buy, Circuit City, Fry's and RadioShack is now $79.99. Customers also receive a $50 mail-in-rebate, making the total price only $29.99 when purchased at any of the 5,000 plus retailers selling Vonage.

"Vonage's suggested retail price change is indicative of Vonage's goal to pass its savings along to its customers, as we have now reached the point where we can reduce costs," stated Matthew Deatrick, vice president, Retail Channel Sales for Vonage. "We are looking forward to
huge sales growth with several of the nation's top consumer electronics retailers, while demonstrating the value of broadband phone service to an untapped market segment."

Canadians Have Been Slow To Adopt Internet Telephony But A Sea Change Is Coming

June 24, 2004

By Mark Evans

According to a recent poll by Ipsos-Reid, Canadians have been slow to embrace Internet telephony and there appears to be little demand for the service among consumers.

However, this has not stopped an increasing number of companies from jumping into the market. The playing field now includes Primus Telecommunications Canada Inc., Comwave Telecom Inc., Holdings Corp., Nicer Technologies Inc. and BabyTel. Telus Corp., AOL Canada Inc., Saskatchewan Telecommunications Holding Corp. and Yak Communications Inc. plan to launch services later this year.
