Vonage Getting Into Local Market

July 3, 2005

By Staff

Vonage has been around for a while, technically speaking.

"We needed to get access to local phone numbers to market it," company spokeswoman Brooke Schulz said last week. "We probably have Vonage customers in Springfield now. They're just not using the 217 area code."

Previously, customers were assigned Vonage area codes and numbers. VoIP provides local and long-distance phone service through high-speed cable and DSL connections.

Vonage isn't likely to drive SBC and Verizon from the market just yet. The company has about 700,000 customers nationwide but is adding new subscribers at a rate of 15,000 a week, according to the Web site, www.vonage.com.

EDISON, NJ, July 7- Vonage, the leading provider of broadband phone service, today announced a partnership with Paltalk to resell broadband telephony service to its subscriber base within the U.S., Canada and the U.K. Paltalk is the largest Instant Chat (IC) community on the Internet with over 3.5 million active members participating in voice and video enabled chat rooms. The Paltalk Messenger allows members to administer their own voice and video conferences and Instant Message (IM) with buddies on MSN, AOL, Yahoo, and ICQ. Vonage will offer Paltalk's subscribers flat rate residential calling plans starting at $14.99 (USD), $19.99 (CAD) and 9.99 (GBP).

Vonage Broadband Phone

July 4, 2005

By Peter Judge

List Price: £9.99 per month

Made By: Vonage

Pros:
• Easy to set up
• Works with standard phones and broadband connections
• Excellent Voicemail

Cons:
• Savings not as good as dialling a prefiz
• Limited appeal to larger businesses

Buying Advice:
This is a good, simple phone service with unlimited calls in the UK and cheap ones abroad. Takes the technical issues out of Internet telephony, and passes on decent savings and good features.

Is Your Future Telephone Also Your Computer?

July 1, 2005

By David Radin

Americans love bargains, so any service that saves them money is likely to be a big winner in their eyes -- especially if the newer service has bells and whistles that make it functionally more appealing.

That may explain the recent growth of VoIP -- short for voice over Internet Protocol -- telephone services.

These services use the technology of the Internet to decrease the cost of phone service from what traditional phone companies typically charge.

Internet phone service can be had for as little as $15 a month for 500 minutes of service and $25 for unlimited usage.

Live 8 As An Advertising Vehicle

June 30, 2005

By Abbey Klaassen

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Saturday's multiple-concert Live 8 event, the elaborate sequel to Bob Geldof’s 1985 Live Aid, is expected to draw the world’s largest broadcast audience and, while the focus is on world poverty, marketers such as AOL, Nokia and Volvo hope a few consumers take notice, too.

The three companies are global sponsors of the anti-poverty entertainment effort that involves 10 concerts, 100 artists, a million spectators and a projected 2 billion viewers.
