Vonage VoIP Service Gaining Interest With Truckers

Vonage In Print News

VoIP Gaining Trucking’s Interest

July 15, 2005

By Sean Kilcarr

Eric Pell will tell you that switching from a traditional phone system setup to one based on computer lines and the Internet came down to a simple, two-word reason: saving money.

As director of information systems for Gainey Transportation Services (GTS), a 1,200-truck carrier based in Grand Rapids, MI, moving to a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology allowing the carrier to make telephone calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line is going to save GTS an estimated $60,000 per year in phone line, maintenance and long distance fees. That’s a big deal in an industry currently beset by high fuel prices and other rising costs, he said.

Consumers Push Firms To VoIP

July 18, 2005

By Dave Bailey

The uptake of voice over IP (VoIP) systems by consumers looks set to force more large companies to adopt VoIP, according to new research into data and usage patterns by global IT services company Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC).

Until now, firms deploying VoIP have largely done so to cut call charges, said James Walker, CSC's director of managed network services for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. "But now (consumer VoIP services) Skype and Vonage have driven a radical shift in the voice market. It's an interesting trend in consumer-led innovation."

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

July 18, 2005

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

Today, we'll preview news about why, when Christmastime rolls around this year, Santa's sleigh may be full of Vonage-configured Linksys routers. We'll visit Vonage a VoIP Forum thread on what you should check if you cannot set up that router because it gives you an invalid MAC address, and meet a new user who would like your help getting her new Vonage to work between two floors. Finally, we'll introduce you to our Vonage VoIP Forum Member of the week -who has a "day job" that might take you a bit by surprise.

 Reporter Loves His Vonage Phone

Vonage In Print News

This Normal Poetry

July 15, 2005

By Brian Blum

I was recently interviewed by a reporter from the San Francisco Chronicle. He was in town for a few months to try to get the "real story" behind the headlines. He's been a regular reader of this column and figured I might be able to share some insights.

Besides which, he offered to take me out to lunch, his treat. We went to Olive and I ordered this chicken dish in a mango-pineapple-coconut sauce which was to die for. I can talk for hours if you give me a good meal.

"So what do you do on an ordinary day?" the reporter asked me.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

July 15, 2005

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

Today, we'll look back at reports that some Vonage customers had temporary difficulty accessing their voice mail messages through the Vonage Web site. We'll examine a new technology that may make it easier to use VoIP services like Vonage over dial-up Internet connections. We'll talk about a new certification program for consumer electronics retailers and salespeople to sell Vonage service and equipment. Finally, we'll examine the continuing controversy about all this talk that Vonage is thinking about selling itself to BellSouth, and what some of you have been saying about those rumors on the Vonage VoIP Forum.

Vonage Calls for Improved Choice for Internet Users

July 13, 2005

By Adrian Baschnonga

Research conducted by US-based VoIP player Vonage shows that some two in three British internet users are unhappy paying for both line rental and a broadband subscription, claiming that this is 'unfair' in an open market. The survey shows that only 37% of end-users believe there is genuine choice when it comes to home telephony, in contrast to 75% for mobile services and 57% for electricity.

'Naked DSL' Demanded By Vonage

July 14, 2005

By Staff

Research has revealed that two thirds of UK Internet users are deeply unchuffed about having to pay a BT line rental on top of their broadband subscription.

The stating-the-bleeding-obvious revelation was the conclusion of an online survey of more than 1,000 broadband subscribers in the UK who were questioned in June 2005 by online research company, TickBox.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

July 14, 2005

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

Today, we'll look at how Vonage wants some of its users to -um-"get naked." We'll consider a rumor making its way around the Internet that Vonage, the company, may be in merger talks with a leading regional phone company. We'll also review new Vonage VoIP Forum threads about lightning and one regarding porting a number from Sprint.
