Vonage Press Releases

The Vonage(R) 'Pimp That Phone' Contest is Giving Four Design Enthusiasts the Opportunity to Turn Ordinary Telephones into Works of Art - And 'You' Have the Power to Decide the Winner

'Calling all Artists'

EDISON, N.J., July 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Vonage Marketing, a subsidiary of Vonage Holdings Corp., the leader in broadband telephony, is giving ordinary home telephones a designer appeal with "Pimp That Phone" -- a contest derived from the wildly popular technology craze called case modding. Case modding -- the art of decking out the CPU of your personal computer to give it a personal touch -- is now moving to the telephone through the use of electric colors, dazzling jewels, and a heavy dose of imagination to make them truly one of a kind.

With creativity, a steady hand and a personalized touch, an ordinary home telephone will be transformed into the ultimate work of art. Vonage, exclusive sponsor of "Pimp That Phone", has pitted four celebrity technology contestants against each other to compete to see who can express their artistic abilities the best and can "Pimp That Phone" with the greatest success. The winner will then be crowned the ultimate "Pimp Supreme" walking away with an array of cash and prizes.

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

Today, we'll look at PC Magazine's article about how Vonage, and other VoIP providers, are preparing for this Friday's FCC deadline in which they have to tell their customers about the lack of enhanced 911 services, and for customers to get back to them indicating they understand what's up with that. You'll read about Vonage's new - and I'm not making this up- "Pimp That Phone" contest. Another article we will spotlight talks about Vonage-configured Wi-Fi VoIP handsets- what's here, and what's coming. We'll read about how Vonage coming into Australia will help boost the popularity of VoIP there. We'll also look at a Vonage VoIP Forum thread about a popular topic - headsets. Vonage and VTech said this week that they have teamed up to take the VOIP service cordless with an integrated system.

Although normal corded and cordless phones can be plugged into a Vonage-enabled router to allow VOIP service, the new IP-8100-2 phone from VTech will integrate the Vonage service directly into the phone. The phone will cost $149.99, not including a $50 rebate that can be mailed in after 60 days of the Vonage service.

Vonage Finally Goes Wireless

July 20, 2005

By Staff

In just four days, Vonage will begin selling wireless phones for use with its service – albeit months later than expected – with hardware from only one of its three anticipated vendors ready to roll and not even the promised WiFi-based hardware at that. The VoIP carrier says a 5.8 GHz phone from VTech will be on the shelves at more than 8,000 retailers, and Vonage is touting the widgetry as “the world’s first broadband enabled cordless phone system.”
