Corporate customers have a new choice when it comes to VoIP, thanks to a new alliance between Vonage Marketing and wireless broadband service provider TowerStream Corporation.

The companies will make use of TowerStream's pre-WiMAX technology to enable business customers to place VoIP calls without having to connect via links from local telephone or cable companies.

"This collaboration will serve as the clearest example of the symbiotic relationship between VoIP and wireless broadband over the last mile," said TowerStream COO Jeff Thompson in a prepared statement.

Vonage, TCS Launch VoIP E9-1-1 Public Safety Outreach Campaign

August 2, 2005

By Staff

Vonage, the leading provider of broadband phone service, has joined forces with TeleCommunication Systems (TCS), a leading provider of precise location and wireless data technology, to provide the vital introduction to thousands of Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) throughout the United States.

Beginning in mid-August, Vonage will be sending VoIP Enhanced 9-1-1 (E9-1-1) kits to introduce Vonage's E9-1-1 services to PSAPs nationwide. TCS deployment professionals will follow up within a few weeks of initial contact to collect relevant PSAP data. The program is designed to provide the PSAP community with information regarding Vonage's approach and process for E9-1-1 rollout within the FCC's 120-day deadline, and how the public's safety needs will continue to be met in the interim.

Companies Jockey For Position In Revised Telecommunications Law

July 30, 2005

By Scott Lanman

Ted Stevens entered the U.S. Senate in 1968, when the Baby Bell phone companies still belonged to American Telephone and Telegraph Co. and it cost $5 a minute to call his home state of Alaska from Washington. Today, Stevens, 81, is the Senate’s longest-serving Republican and the chairman of the Commerce Committee. He faces a new reality: The United States has more mobile phones than landlines, cable television providers are selling phone and Internet service, and phone companies are preparing to offer TV service.
