Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

October 10, 2005

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest. Before we begin, I have some exciting news. On Saturday, the Vonage VoIP Forum got our 13 millionth page view since we started out here in March, 2003. Each time you click on a page within the Forum, that's one page view. It took us only about 22 days to make the leap from 12 to 13 million page views. Doing the math, that tells us we are getting about 45,000 clicks a day!

In today's edition, we'll look at a non-techie news reporter's account of how easy it was for her to set up Vonage service at home, and an article in which a techie news reporter describes how and why Vonage is cheaper than standard phone services. We'll also look at an article honoring Vonage chief marketing officer Dean Harris as a Marketer of the Year. We'll review Vonage VoIP Forum threads that link to some funny new Vonage tv ads, and also tell a reader how to solve the problem with non-functioning "*70" call-waiting block service,,,,,, as well as introduce you to our newest Vonage VoIP Forum Member of the Week.

Same Phone, Same Number, Big Savings

Vonage In Print News

October 7, 2005

By Sue Vorenberg

Don't let my phone jack hit you on the way out.

I've joined the digital telephone revolution, and I didn't even have to put on a funny hat and shout "vive le phone" to do it.

In the past month, I've switched my telephone service from $60-a-month Qwest to $25-a-month Vonage.

The funny thing is that I get more features now for $25 a month than I did when I was stuck with the big monopoly, and I still have the same phone number.

Vonage and another company called Net2Phone sell telephone service through your high speed Internet connection. The switch is a lot easier than you might think.

The thought of setting up a phone through the Internet used to make me nervous, until I looked into it. Turns out, they'll send you a router - a thing you can plug into your modem - and it has a normal phone jack in it that you can hook your regular old wall phone into. And the computer doesn't have to be on for the thing to work.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

October 7, 2005

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest. In today's edition, we'll look at a new distribution agreement in which some Canadian non-profit groups will benefit every time one leading non-profit organization service provider helps sign up a new Vonage customer.. We'll get you the scoop on what major award Vonage won last night, and clue you in on a forthcoming presentation by a Vonage exec on E911. In our popular Friday In the Blogs feature, we review what some of the VoIP bloggers we read regularly have written about this week. Finally, we'll look at a new Vonage VoIP Forum thread on forwarding calls in case Vonage experiences a service interruption.

Brandweek Magazine Announces the 14th Annual 'Marketer of the Year'

Vonage Press ReleasesDean Harris, CMO, Vonage: Sold one million Americans on Internet phone service, and made Vonage a household brand-name.

PHOENIX, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 7, 2005-- Last night, Brandweek Magazine named the 2005 honorees of their prestigious "Marketer of the Year" Awards at a dinner held at The Arizona Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix. The event, held in conjunction with the Association of National Advertisers annual conference, celebrated the industry's top marketers, who have best used creativity and instinct to break through with national brands. Brandweek Editor Karen Benezra presented the awards.

"There's no doubt that 2005 has been a tough year for business across the board, from rising ingredient costs to a spike in gas prices. Today's leaders face unexpected challenges," Benezra said. "Our honorees for Brandweek's "Marketers of the Year" may have been caught off guard, but they did not retreat. They simply reinvented the game."

 Holmdel ‘Adopts’ Hurricane Torn City

Vonage In Print News

October 5, 2005

By Michelle Rosenberg

The township recently showed that actions speak louder than words by adopting a Mississippi city that was lost during Hurricane Katrina.

The Township Committee voted 4-0 to officially “adopt” the city of Pass Christian at the Sept. 26 meeting. The idea to adopt a city was suggested by Committeewoman Serena DiMaso and Deputy Mayor Janet Berk at the previous meeting. Following the suggestion, Township Administrator Christopher Schultz contacted Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Simpson to find out what would go into adopting a city.

After a lot of research and unsuccessful attempts to contact people in the destroyed area, Simpson finally discovered the small city of Pass Christian. Simpson said that after looking through articles online from local newspapers, he located a person’s name and working cell phone number. The number he found was that of a committeeman from Pass Christian.

Expanded Wi-Fi Part of Relief Effort

Vonage In Print News

October 1, 2005

By Staff

Vol. 13; No. 10; Pg. 22

Baton Rouge (La.) General has enhanced its Wi-Fi network to enable it to treat patients displaced by Hurricane Katrina. The 448-bed hospital is taking in many patients forced to evacuate New Orleans hospitals because of damage and flooding from the hurricane. The rush of new patients has required Baton Rouge General to step up its I.T., including its Wi-Fi network. The hospital and PHNS, its Dallas-based I.T. outsourcing vendor, have enhanced its Wi-Fi network to reach areas that are being used to house New Orleans patients. The hospital is placing patients into all available space in its facility. Baton Rouge General expects to receive 20 complimentary notebook PCs from Round Rock, Texas-based Dell Inc. to use to access its enhanced Wi-Fi network.
