Vonage(R) and UTStarcom Launch of Portable Wi-Fi Phone

Vonage Press Releases

Wi-Fi Handset Allows Vonage Subscribers to Make Calls from Any Open Access Wi-Fi Hot Spot

HOLMDEL, N.J., and ALAMEDA, Calif., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Vonage Marketing, a subsidiary of Vonage Holdings Corp., a leading broadband phone company, and UTStarcom Inc., a global leader in IP-based, end-to-end networking solutions and services, today launched the F1000, a portable Wi-Fi handset manufactured by UTStarcom and configured with Vonage's Voice over IP (VoIP) phone service. This product, which will offer mobility across 802.11b networks, is now available at www.vonage.com for $129.99 with a $50 instant rebate for a total of $79.99.

"Recognizing the need for consumers and small businesses to have numerous options when communicating with family, friends and business associates, Vonage is excited to offer its subscribers the UTStarcom F1000 Wi-Fi handset, which will enable them to make unlimited local and long distance calls from any open access Wi-Fi hot spot," stated Louis Holder, executive vice president of product development for Vonage Holdings Corp. "With the rapid increase of open access points around the world, this is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to take advantage of the affordability of VoIP service and also enjoy the convenience of mobility. The UTStarcom Wi-Fi handset bundled with Vonage's service represents the leading-edge of VoIP service worldwide."

The F1000 Wi-Fi handset is well designed for both state-of-the-art features and high value. It will be configured with Vonage's standard call features: three-way calling, call waiting, repeat dial on busy, call forwarding to user assigned number, call hold/resume, voicemail, call rejecting/redial/mute and Caller ID based on phone book entries. It will also include phone book favorites with distinctive ring options including: silent, vibrate and selectable ring tones. Users will be able to configure and save Wi-Fi profiles for ease of connectivity. Equally important, the F1000 supports a robust battery, with up to 5 hours of talk time, 50-100 hour standby and the ability to recharge in 2-3 hours.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

December 12, 2005

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest. In the news, We'll point you to an article that describes how Vonage rates the effectiveness of their ads on specific websites, and what happens on those occasions when those ads don't prove all that cost-effective. We'll look in on a  Vonage VoIP Forum thread in which Vonage users in an oil-rich Middle Eastern nation are trying to decide how to get the ADSL provider there to unblock Vonage. Another thread deals with a complex wiring issue a new Vonage Forum Member is experiencing, and some valuable tips from a veteran Vonage Forum Member about how to solve the issue so that the new Member has dial tones in every phone in his new home. Finally, this being Monday, we'll meet our new Vonage Forum Member of the Week.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

December 9, 2005

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest. In the news, we'll read about a key new distributor Vonage has picked up. . Because today is Friday, it's the day for our popular In The Blogs feature where we call attention to what the bloggers we read regularly are writing about Vonage.  We'll point you to a Vonage VoIP Forum thread in which a Vonage user notes that when he tries to use Vonage over his Wireless Internet Service Provider connection, call quality tends to dip in the evening hours.

What Vonage customers care about most

Vonage In Print News

December 8, 2005

By Russell Shaw

I'm big on dates- the milestone variety. (I could tell you about dates- the "millstone" variety-but only over a beer).

Just went back over the archives of this blog. I found an entry from exactly a year ago entitled "What Vonage customers care about."

I wrote this entry after going to the independently owned and operated Vonage Forum and reading various lists that rank the most read news stories and reviews. Given that this Forum tends to attract the most interested of Vonage users, a list of this Forum's most read news stories is a pretty accurate indicator of what concerns these folks.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

December 8, 2005

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest.

First, I would like to repeat some very exciting news I first wrote about in Wednesday's edition. Tuesday at 3:13 p.m. Eastern Time, the Vonage Forum got our 15 millionth page view since we started up in March, 2003. Every time you click on a page, that's one page view. So keep those page views- and those clicks- coming!

In the news, we'll tell you about a cell phone distributor that is getting into the Vonage retail business, and introduce you to a U.K.-based musical instruments distributor who has slashed his phone bills in half since he has switched his business phones to Vonage. We'll also point you to a Vonage VoIP Forum thread from a Member whose calls keep cutting out, and another from a Member who likes fast cars but not fast rings.

Vonage In Print News

December 6, 2005

A West Midlands firm has slashed its phone bill by half after turning to the VoIP (voice over internet protocol) system developed by US firm Vonage.

Synergy Distribution, based in Tamworth, says the new system has cut its phone bills by pounds 250 a month since it was installed last May.

The firm, which specialises in the distribution of musical instruments, has also been able to operate more efficiently thanks the advanced features Vonage has built into the system.

 Internet Phone Savings

Vonage In Print News

December 5, 2005

By Staff

Nearly ten-million homes and businesses now use the Internet to make their phone calls. That new way of phoning is called Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP, for short. It's supposed to save you money. Consumer Reports just checked it out.

Ginny Persico is one of millions of people who make calls via their high-speed Internet connection, having dumped their traditional phone service.

"The bills were getting higher and we ended up getting the digital service. Saves about, the bills are about half of what they used to be," Ginny said.

Net Neutrality is Key to Telecom Reform, Hill Staffers Hear

Vonage In Print News

December 5, 2005

By Staff

Vonage and TiVo executives said they're content with net neutrality provisions in the House Commerce Committee telecom reform draft. The issue is so central to their business models that they're inclined not to quibble over minutiae, which might result in delaying the legislation's passage or stalling the bill indefinitely. Those outcomes would spell disaster for the 2 high-tech companies, Congressional staffers heard at a Public Knowledge (PK)- sponsored lunch Fri.

"If it can't be better because we need to get the bill passed, I can live with it, because I need it," said TiVo Gen. Counsel Matthew Zinn, calling net neutrality the most important component to his company in the Telecom Act rewrite. Under the "gatekeeper model" being proposed by major telcos like BellSouth and AT&T (WID Dec 1 p2), "we don't have a role; we're done," he said. Vonage Vp- Govt. Affairs Chris Murray said net neutrality is "the most important issue to get right in terms of the way the Internet is going to evolve over the next decade." The topic must be approached with much humility and considerable deliberation, he said.
