By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest. In the news, we'll tell you some more info about Vonage's New Wi-Fi phone. We'll review an article in which a couple of well-known small business consultants and authors recommend Vonage service as a cost-saver. We'll catch up on the latest about a security issue reported a while back about the new F1000 Vonage Wi-Fi Phone. We'll also look at a Vonage Forum thread that started out as a discussion about a Motorola router, but morphed into an interesting post about one of Linksys' routers used with Vonage.

With New WiFi Phone Shipping, Vonage Should Become A Wi-Fi Provider, Too

Vonage In Print News

December 13, 2005

By Russell Shaw

Here's an idea for your morning coffee. Vonage ought to become a WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider). Plenty of WISPs are for sale. They ought to buy some, affiliate with others.

Becoming a Wireless Internet Service Provider would offer Vonage a growth platform for its long-anticipated UTStarcom F1000 Wi-Fi VoIP Phone - which finally goes on sale today. The best price you'll be able to get it for (at least up until it shows up on eBay, will be $80. That's over the Vonage site, after an instant rebate.

 Vonage Debuts Cell-like Wi-Fi Phone

Vonage In Print News

December 13, 2005

By Ed Oswald

Vonage and UTStarcom on Tuesday announced a cell phone-like device that will allow customers to use their Vonage accounts from anywhere there is a Wi-Fi connection.

Initially, the phone will only operate with public networks, meaning hotspots like those in Starbucks or some airports would not be compatible. However, Vonage said that it plans to resolve these issues as soon as possible.

Vonage VoIP Forum Digest

December 13, 2005

By Daniel Connor

Welcome to today's edition of the Vonage VoIP Forum Digest. In the news, we'll let you know that yes, the Vonage UTStarcom F1000 Wi-Fi Phone starts shipping today. We'll let you know about this phone's capabilities. But if your kids have something else on their wish list, we'll let you know how and even where, they can call Santa directly over Vonage. We'll get an update on a  Vonage VoIP Forum thread about a controversy in which it appears that Vonage calls have been blocked by the Middle Eastern nation of Qatar, and what some Vonage users there - some of whom would want to call their U.S.-based friends or family over Christmas - have decided to do about it. We'll also review a thread in which one of our most familiar members has figured out how to direct-dial his Vonage box from his PC- and he tells you how to do so as well.
