Vonage mmm... tomato.. I switched back to cable modem -> vt2442 -> wrt54gs

mmm... tomato..

I switched back to cable modem -> vt2442 -> wrt54gs (thibor 15c), because of a lot of echo I received with the last config with the dlink. However, I'm pretty sure the echo wasn't anything to do with the dlink (wrong?), since I still got a few calls with echo with the latest setup, albeit a lot less. It seems like the echo cancellation in the vt2442 is a little better.

Any idea what I can do to reduce the possibility of receiving echo (hearing my own voice)? People at the other end say the call quality is perfect, so it's only me that hears the echo periodically on some calls, and *only* on calls that I initiate. Incoming calls never exhibit this 'echo' trait.

So, here's my hardware:

webstar dpc2100 cable modem
wrt54gs v2.0
d-link vta
motorola vt2442

It could be me, but it does seem like the call quality is best when the vt2442 is up front with everything else behind it. But the geek in me wants to keep trying different configs :)

Would a different firmware make any difference in this instance? I doubt it, but I'm pretty new to this, so any feedback you can provide would be appreciated.

I would love to shelf the vt2442 for a couple of reasons:

- background noise is high. Hiss, high pitch sound, etc.
- the leds are crazy bright and it distracts me.. I know.. I could just cover it up or turn it around.. but I'm drawn to them lol
- I'd like to get my phone adapter behind a router/firewall and control everything from my wrt54gs.

Ideally, I'd like the wrt54gs up front, with the d-link behind it. But I keep coming back to the vt2442 (up front) config after playing for a few days.

And lastly, can someone provide me with the latest tomato 0.09 gs code.bin checksum? I don't see it on the site and want to make sure it's solid before flashing.
