i called Vonage tech support just now and had them push the new 1.00.47 firmware to me, hoping it might help the issue, but the behavior remains unchanged. still has that full ring answer delay issue.

the most frustrating thing is how it happens to EVERYONE i call, except for the new sprint cell i got... so what is the difference? it seems like now there's at least a starting point from which to identify what the difference is between what works and what does not, but how do we get that info to the right people? every time i call tech support they want me to jump through the same hoops and take 1-2 hours of my time, each and every time i call, and that's really frustrating. i have the trouble ticket number and i give it to them each time, but each tech says "well first lets try a few things..." and doesn't deviate from their script, forcing me to re-do all that has been done. i don't see why i have to run network tests and check all my wiring when countless other techs have taken me beyond those steps... it's a real roadblock to getting it "fixed" when you have to start from square 1 every time :?

**update - the tech who i'm talking to now decided to send me another device, another rtp300. he said "this is not an uncommon issue, and a new device *may* help". compared to what the higher-up tech told me before (detailed in above posts), that doesn't seem to make sense but i'm willing to try anything. before i agreed to have him send me a replacement, i asked if i was going to be charged shipping in either direction for the replacement, and he said no... but then i got a couple emails from Vonage billing informing me my card was just charged $89.99 for a new unit and $9.95 shipping - guess i now get to wait on hold for Vonage billing to fix that, eh? this whole Vonage thing isn't nearly as smooth as it could (should) be...
