It must be a supported WIRED usb adaptor and you just put ",401" (without the quotes) in the dialing prefix. On series 1 DTiVos you can slow the modem down with ",#019" to get a more reliable connection. This does not seem to work for the modems in series 2 TiVOs or in any of the stand alone TiVOs. The external modem solution in the linked thread seems to work fine for most that have gone to the trouble to set it up. I have three TiVos connected through Vonage but they are all series 1s. All of them connect and downlaod 90% of the time, which is plenty good enough for all functions.
