Vonage hey guys, phone adapter is getting delivered today, and wanted to do some testing.

hey guys, phone adapter is getting delivered today, and wanted to do some testing.

While my number is being ported, i'm trying to figure out a good way to wire this since i have a wireless dlink 524 g. router. I will do the testing without wiring the entire house, since the phone is not ported, and the pots line is still active.

here goes.

Cable modem to DLINK router (wan port)
Dlink router (Lan port) to Linksys Router (Wan Port).
all devices still plugging into DLINK ROUTER, only phone is plugged into Linksys router.

Enable MAC CLONE on the DLINK to clone the mac of the LINKSYS RTP300 ROUTER. Which in turn would give me a new ip.

DLINK is giving DHCP, LINKSYS will get IP from DLINK DHCP SCOPE .

now thats the way I originally thought it would work...but also saw this way as well.

Below:

Cable modem to RTP Linksys (Wan Port)
Linksys (Lan Port) to DLINK Wireless G Router (Lan port).
Linksys will be primary DHCP, push the DHCP through the DLINK router, which is now a switch...and all devices should get DHCP.

with RTP as first point of entry into the house .

any thoughts?

• If the Dlink is a good router with QoS, then you should go with your first setup,
• here is what I did in the end. LINKSYS Phone adapter as first point of entry
• Sounds good; what works works. If you start having problems, try the other way.
• FYI, my QOS upstream rate on the router is 512kbps. When im maxing my pipe...now
