Help!

I just got my Linksys RTP300-VD & the Network side of the device works fine but no phone line/dial tone. I can browse the web, email etc. I'm even using it now to post in this forum.

I think it's a Vonage error in their systems. This is why, I got the packing slip that says they shipped me a Motorolla VT100(my web account also states this), but they didn't. They actually shipped me a Linksys RTP300-VD. Here's where I think the goof up is. The supposed WAN/MAC address of the Motorolla VT100 is actually the WAN/MAC of my Linksys... Doh!

When I go into the web admin of the Linksys RTP300 & check the status of the voice it says it provisioned fine, but apparently it hasn't. So I dig around & try to activate it on vonage's site but when I enter the mac address that is on the bottom of the Linksys hardware & on the Linksys packaging it is says it is an invalid MAC.

Then I thought maybe it was a port issue, but why would I get the device without the necessary ports already opened on it? I'm not using any router between My Motorolla Surboard 5120 & My Linksys RTP300-VD.

Any info/ideas would be appreciated!

Regards,
JB

Ordinarily I'd ask for technical details- service provider, up and download speeds, equipment setup, and so forth. In this case, the internet is working and you've got known issues suggesting that a mistake has been made, so it's time to talk to Vonage customer support at 866 243 4357.

Before you call, make sure that you've tried re-cycling everything and turning things on in the correct order. If that doesn't get you a phone light, then make that call.

Thanks for your response, it's greatly appreciated. I'll be calling Vonage today. I thought I'd try a Vonage forum before I call, just to see if it was a config issue on my end. Mostly because I have no phone, I cancelled my old service before the new billing cycle to save $$$. The # transfer has gone through already, so hooray for that! Smile

Can't wait to start using this service. From what I read in the forums it sounds like it's a great service.

JB

If you're concerned about possible setup issues, by all means post details of how you have it configured and let the folks here have a look at it. But don't delay that call to customer service!

The things to post when you're having trouble are listed here: http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic7191.html .

Thanks for your input!

It was an issue on Vonages end. They were great about acknowledging the problem & helping me resolve the issue. They had it fixed within 20 minutes. I had everything configured correctly the first time around. I'm very computer literate & I program in just about every language under the sun & have for about 10 years(PHP & Flash are my favorite though)! I also have 15 years of networking & PC troubleshooting/repair under my belt. I'll be sure to watch the forums & help when I can.

By the way, the sound quality is great, Caller ID works, no more issues. Oh Yeah! Smile

JB

Even though through the web admin under:
Status->Voice

it said it had provisioned correctly, but it didn't. They just reprovisioned it, which invloved a quick reboot of the RTP300 on my end & voila, like magic, it worked! Couldn't be happier Smile

The main reason I got Vonage was to talk to my kids in Colorado & not have to pay an arm & a leg to be a part of their life on a daily basis(I live in Las Vegas). I also got it to talk to a good muician friend of mine in Canada without having to pay out the wazoo as well. (www.daniellesavage.com)

My 7 year old son was so stoked about it that he wants to get Vonage in Colorado so he can call me whenever he wants to. Isn't technology wonderful!
