Post subject: Call attendant, multi-ext voicemail, music on hold?
Anyone using their Business Vonage plans with a call attendant, multi-ext voicemail, find-me/follow-me, call screening and/or music on hold?
Anyone using a 3rd party "virtual pbx" type service in conjunction with their Business Vonage accounts? Any tips for the new comer in this area?
Any rumors of Vonage offering extended "pbx" type features in the future? Upcoming betas?
Thanks!
Malcolm

Please add to my previous post (couldn't find a way to edit my original post) the following features:
- ability to put callers on hold
- conference calling with more than 3 callers
Thanks!

Greetings,
I live in Park Slope, Brooklyn with 4 room mates and my 9 year old daughter. To make things livable I have installed a 2 line Panasonic telephone system, KX-TG 2200B, with 4 wireless handsets (it will work with up to 8 ). The system is perfectly suited to our needs, the main phone is the base station and acts as a switcher. It intercepts incoming calls and after pressing a key combination, will then only ring the hand set of the person you wish to speak to. Each handset has it's own, private, voice mailbox and the ability to forward calls and conference call (due to the fact there are two phone lines). I currently pay Verizon for unlimited local and long distance service, the "freedom plan" on the line we use mainly to call out on, and, the other line, which we mainly use as our in-coming line, has basic service. The total cost for both bills combined ends up being around $110, with another $30/month for DSL.
Is it possible that Vonage could provide 2 lines of service for a competitive rate? Is my DSL fast enough for 2 lines of service? I am not interested in cable modem in my area, I had it and it was down as often as not, too many subscribers in the area.
Thanks,

For the moment, the difference between Vonage BUSINESS and RESIDENTIAL offerings are ZERO.
Vonage is focusing on RESIDENTIAL service, though one might suspect they would enter the Small Business market and differentiate themselves with an assortment of features.
>> My guess -- Vonage will remain RESIDENTIAL focused for the moment, the Small Business Market is difficult to reach and in many cases actually purchases much like the consumer markets (you shop at Office Depot too don't you?)

Post subject: I did this. It's a PBX Thing - Not Vonage.
This is doable for someone with a little patience and a spare PC. Check out
http://www.asterisk.org.
It's a Linux open source PBX that provides this functionality. You need to spend $100 on a Wildcard X100P card for your PC for each line - but bar that and your time - you're all set.
I have 5 snom SIP phones hooked to the PC with extensions, hunt groups, call pickup, call attendant, custom hold music, individual voicemail boxes (routed to email) etc. Hope this helps.

interesting....can you make it work with the home telephone wiring rather than routing calls through the PC's?

Yes... you just need a different card to add the standard phones. I personally don't use POTS phones - I use IP phones.
