Is the Voip adapter getting an IP address (can you surf the Web on your PC)?
Does your DSL require a login? Has that login been set up properly on your Voip adapter? |

Yes, I can surf the web. I went into the setup and tried to input the username and password function, but when I do that, the light turns red then it won't do anything. The way I have it now is to select IP automatically. |

OK, so just to clarify. When you wire it like THIS:
DSL Modem ->Vonage Voip Adapter -> PC
The PC can surf the Internet and do everything it wants to do, including www.testyouroip.com
Correct?
I'm going to assume that (presuming you are a new customer) you've activated the device, and that you've waited a while for Vonage to get the setup.
If that's the case, then there are two possibilities:
1. The ports that Vonage needs to use are blocked by a firewall somewhere enroute. Your ISP may be blocking Voip, for example.
2. Your adapter is fried.
Of course (stating what is probably obvious, but just in case): If you're a brand new customer and you haven't activated the unit yet, then it's not going to give you a line until you sign up for service, using "retail activation" on the Vonage site. If you've just signed up, it'll probably take a little while for your router to get set up, get the latest firmware, and acquire a line. |

That's correct, I can do everything on the net. My account was activated a couple of weeks ago. I just got the VTech 8100-2 phones yesterday. About the firewall, that could very well be the case. How do I go about changing the firewall settings? |

The firewall is most likely not one that's under your control.
Does your DSL modem have a firewall or router in it? If so, open up the ports listed here:
http://www.vonage.com/help.php?article=89&category=42&nav=3
It's also possible that your DSL provider doesn't like Vonage and blocks their necessary ports. If that's the case, then only your provider can fix it. I don't know if Bellsouth is blocking or not.
I'd call Vonage Customer Service if you have an alternate phone and see if they can find your adapter and see if they can fix it. They may be able to find different ways to get to it. |

thank you very much nate for your help. i'm on the phone with Vonage right now. didn't know that equip change matters. we originally got the rtp300 with order, then we purchased the 8100-2 adapter. mac addresses are different, so it won't work until Vonage updates your mac address. |

Ummmm. yeah. That was kinda critical.
No problem. Glad you were able to get it resolved. Enjoy your new phone! |
