I have a primary Von account with a single line. Should I be able to fax over that line without a dedicated fax line or does vonage block faxes and require a secondary line? Havent been able to get a straight answer from any of the searches I've done.
It would be hard for me to believe they would block it unless they had a tone block in place (and that would kill other things as well) |

You do not need a dedicated line to fax. I fax on one of my regular lines all day long. |

It has nothing to do with the actual sounds being blocked, but that the packets are not timed perfectly, and/or have echo, causeing very distorted images. This usually can be fixed by removing the bandwidth saver! |

I don't think they block it intentionally, but the call settings between a FAX and a voice call would be a little different.
There's another section to the forum that has to do with hooking "data devices" such as TiVO, ReplayTV, and alarm systems up to Vonage. Read a few threads there - that will probably help you out if you can't get your FAX machine to work. |

Also, you can use the prefix of *99 to automatically push to the 90kbps for faxing if you have some trouble. |

I was having trouble with my fax also. *99 did not work for me.
What DID work, was placing a DSL filter between the fax phone line and the Vonage router. |

What made my faxing faster was changing my QOS from 256 to 530 in the router set up. |

I have had problems faxing, but resolved this by prefixing the number dialed with "*99". This disables the Bandwidth Saver for that call.
This was not an easy solution to find; Vonage support told me to disconnect all other phone lines...which did not work.
You do not need to change anything else or buy different or additional hardware. Give it a try.
Good luck |
