Vonage
(Linksys RTP300) on Sify Broadband (India)
Does anyone have this working? If so, what are the solutions?
Please don't point me to search and to other forum posts, nobody has yet answered if
Vonage
works with Sify.
Thanks in advance.

Post subject: I setup vonage on Win 98 with SIFY broadband (pune)
Took me the whole trip, but I finally got it working it out half hour before coming back to US, honestly! Hope this helps someone else and saves them some time. First of all, you will need a Router and your
Vonage
adapter (I used Microsoft MN-500 and
Vonage
PAP2 adapter). Make sure your
Vonage
adapter and router are configured to work together before you add SIFY to the cocktail.
Assuming you take router and
Vonage
adapter from US, and PC is from India. You will need one voltage adapter for 220V to 110V and a surge protector strip with a few outlet points. When you are in India, do the following:
1. Note down the PC settings: From DOS prompt, execute " ipconfig /all " and print it out. Also go to network TCP/IP properties and note down your assigned static IP, DNS and gateway settings etc. Note your PC's MAC address. Remember NOT to update any DLL files if prompted. SIFY has their version that is required.
2. Sify allows 3 MAC IDs per broadband, so note your router and
Vonage
adapter's MAC address and contact local provider and ask them to add these to your account.
3. To setup your router, assign it the static IP, DNS & gateway settings from your PC. You cannot login to SIFY directly from the router...
4. Update your PC's TCP/IP settings only to enable DHCP (to get IP address automatically instead of assigned static IP) and leave the rest as it is. Remember, DON't change DLL files else nothing will work.
5. Attach Voltage adapter to wall outlet, plug in the surge strip into it, then plug-in router and
Vonage
adapter into that. Setup LAN cables for your home LAN (you know how to do this, right?) -- plug in SIFY LAN cable into router incoming port and one output each goes into PC and
Vonage
adapter.
6. Power-on everything, wait for DHCP to assign local IPs, so that your PC has an IP address like 192.168.x.x instead of the static IP assigned by SIFY. Login to your sify account from PC. Minute later pick up phone connected to
Vonage
adapter and dial-away.
7. Trouble shooting --
a. Check your LAN is configured properly (router & PC)
b. Check you can login to SIFY & access internet through router
c. Check
Vonage
adapter lights for steady blue (or whatever)
Hope this helps.

Post subject: Steps to connect vonage phone router with Sify Broadband
Got it working with sify broadband and RT31P2
steps:
1) Connect sify line to
Vonage
adapter in internet port
2) connect a lan cable from
Vonage
adapter to PC
3) Note down ip address, DNS etc set by sify on the PC
4) Set IP to obtain automatically and DNS to obtain automatically
5) from PC: go to
http://192.168.15.1
6) Set internet type to "Static IP" - fields for IP and DNS etc will show up
7) Put the IP address and DNS given by sify here.
8 ) Dont touch anything else and save settings
9) test by pinging the sify gateway (the one that sify client tries to connect
10) Run sify client from PC and connect your phone
Happy talking !

Hi guys
Thanks for all the help, I got through this forum.
It was really great.
My folks back in India also use sify broadband.
As per my knowledge these
Voip
phones work without being connected to the system (Computer).
But in my parents case, to get the phone working, they have to turn their system on and then connect through sify client.
Do anyone of you is facing the same problem.
Do anyone of you know the solution for it?
I tried customer care, but their knowledge on this particular topic is very limited. They do not have any answers for it.
Waiting for the response.
You can give me a call at 919.559.4087
