Using strictly Vonage Voip Is it possible to make a call using my pc with headset and microphone? Ideally I'd like to have a phone directory and dialer. Thanks in advance. |

Yes, if your PC has a voice capable analog modem you can connect a phone line to your PC and use any number of software packages to accomplish this.
If you don't care if your audio comes through the PC you can dial from your PC by using Vonage's Click-2-Call software.
If neither of these solutions is right for you then you can consider the softphone option. This provides a software only solution for making calls from your PC but it adds an additional cost and does not come with unlimited minutes. |

Check the softphone forum.
What you need most is a good digital usb headset. dialer/directory comes with the free software. (I use SJLabs) |

I may be missing something. I have installed click to call and it seems to work well. especially with the outlook contacts. It dials my number and then the person i'm calling. NOW..how do I utilize the headset and mic and not the phone to talk and hear? Thanks again. |

The only way to use your regular Vonage line is through the analog RJ-11 jack on your Vonage device. If you want to use your computer, you have two options:
1. Turn your computer into an analog phone by adding a modem that supports voice, then loading up its software. This will mean that the call goes from your ISP to the Vonage device, then out the analog jack, then into your computer's modem, and into the computer that way. Your computer is NOT using SIP, it is an analog phone.
2. Add a "Softphone" line, which you can then use any SIP client to access. This is an additional expense and you are limited as to the number of minutes you can use.
If you are just looking for a headphone/microphone solution, get a desktop phone that has a headphone/microphone jack. It's cheaper and easier. If you are looking for the portability of being away from your Vonage device, you'll need a softphone account, or you can use Gizmo, Skype, or one of the other Voip networks that is designed specifically for use with a computer, as opposed to Vonage who requires the use of their devices unless you add a SoftPhone to your account. |

Does this mean I could use the Vonage SoftPhone feature with another SIP phone application, like Gizmo? Is there a trick for setting this up? |

I beleive if you have a Vonage softphone account you can use any SIP capable softphone. Just have to enter the Vonage softphone account info into it. |

Gotcha'. It looks like there might be a little more to it, my Vonage softphone login doesn't work with Gizmo... I'm interested in getting Gizmo to work as it has a much nicer Mac interface. It might actually make more sense for me to just switch to Gizmo entirely for this function. |

You can only use Gizmo with a SIPphone account as described in Om Malik's blog. |
