Just got Vonage this past week and after having to have Customer Service walk me thru changing some settings on my computer I've had no problems. But I do have a couple of questions.
First - I use the Simul-Ring feature and have it ring on my Nextel as well as my Vonage line. Now the question is....both the NEXTEL and the Vonage phones have voicemail so if I don't answer the call which voicemail is going to grab the call?
Second - I use a program to send text messages to cell phones and pagers. It can use either an internet (SNPP) or a dial up (TAP) connection to send them. When trying to use this program and TAP I can not get it to send messages. My modem is dialing the remote computer and the remote computer is answering but the program is not seeing the remote computer using Vonage. What am I doing wrong? |

According to the information I've read on Vonage's site, your Vonage VM should be the one to grab the call.
As for the second - are you sure the modems are negotiating a connection? You could try to lower the speed of your modem. (1200 or so) That would help. There are issues with using high speed modems over VoIP.
And, possibly getting Vonage to change your Packetazation level to 10. That fixed my problem with my Security system's modem. |

As for voicemail, whichever service is set to transfer to voicemail faster is actually the one that will get the voicemail call.
I think the rule of thumb is 6 seconds per ring, so if your cell phone is set to go to VM after 4 rings, then it will get the voicemail if Vonage is set to 25 seconds or more, while Vonage will get it if you're set to 23 seconds or fewer.
If they are both set to 24 seconds, your guess is as good as mine, and might even vary from call to call based on signal timing.
Just set your Vonage timing to be slightly slower or slightly faster than your cell phone's VM to get whichever effect you want. |

I use this feature as well with my Verizon cell. This is what I have found to be the case with voice mail:
When I have my cell turned on, both lines will ring and the Vonage VM will pick up if I don't answer the call. I have the simulring set for 25 seconds before going to voice mail.
HOWEVER, if my cell phone is turned off (Verizon cell phones go straight to their voice mail when turned off), my cell phone voice mail will get the call within about two rings. I now just leave my cell on all the time and turn the ringer off at night so it doesn't interfere.
What makes this tricky is when I am out and about on my cell and try to call my wife at home on our Vonage line. When I place the call from my cell, Vonage rings the house and my cell (which I am calling from) at the same time. The call ringing to my cell goes straight to voice mail (because I am in the middle of trying to complete a call- no call waiting beeps on the cell) and I wind up getting my own cell voice mail. The call does ring at home about 1-2 times, but not enough for my wife to answer.
What I can do is use the browser on my Samsung i700 PocketPC phone to login to the dashboard and disable the call forwarding. Or, my wife does see that it was me calling (the phone rings enough for caller id to come through) and she calls me right back. |

Regarding using Vonage for a TAP program.....First Customer Service told me that the program requires an analog connection and that Vonage does not support analog then I was told that Vonage does not support 3rd party software. |
