Post subject: Problem with stutter tone
Hello,
Problem I am having is I do not get the stutter tone any more when I have Voice Mail, I get e-mail notifications and am able to hear my voice message when I dial *123, but I do not hear the stutter tone when I have message.
I disabled and re-enabled the Voice Mail feature, without success, and opened a ticket at
Vonage
last week (so far no answer). Also reboot'ed ATA, Router , Cable Modem.
Tech Data:
ISP Comcast: Cable 8Mb / 768K
D-Link 724U Router
---> Firewall configured to allow the whole
Vonage
IP Range
(during troubleshooting)
Linksys PAP2
TestYourVoIP Results: 4.4 (Boston)
Appreciate any help in the troubleshooting.
Regards,
A/

Since you've already enabled/disabled VM, the best way I can think of to "reset" the status is to leave yourself a message, wait for about 2 minutes, pick up the phone, dial *123... listen to the message (in full), save/delete it as you wish, then press *** to disconnect from the voice mail system, THEN hang up. See if the next incoming message triggers the stutter tone.

Post subject: Problem w/Stutter Tone
Hi,
I traced this back to my Router D-Link DI-724U, looks like the router stops SIP ALG packets from
Vonage
to my network even that the whole
Vonage
IP range is allowed at the router.
[INFO] SIP ALG rejected packet from 216.115.20.28:10000 to X.Y.Z.166:10000 (protocol 17)
[INFO] Tue Dec 13 16:17:24 2005 ICMP ALG rejected packet from 10.3.1.10:65535 to 69.59.245.170:65535 (protocol 1)
I changed about a month ago the router and did not have any Voice Mail during that time and I thinked that I have. I switched to my old router D-Link DI-614+, leaved a voice mail and the stutter tone was there.
Now I placed back the DI-724U and wrote to D-Link support, I will post results.
Anyhow I am still waiting the call back from
Vonage
tech support, if they call I will let them know, so they can review what side the issue is.
Thanks,
A/

Hi,
I placed the PAP2 device in the DMZ of the router and the stutter tone is back. I called D-link and let them know, ticket is at Level 3 Support, they have been very active in this case (called me, email-ed me, connected to the router, etc).
Still, I have not received a call back from
Vonage
Tech Support, really poor service.
I will keep updating this post.

The loss of stutter tone just started today for me. Nothing in my setup has changed, so I am at a loss for what might have happened.
Tried the trick of disabling and re-enabling on the web interface - that did not help. Now I just tried VongaeTPA's *** trick - that worked!! Thanks TPA
So that is good for now. We'll see if it sticks.

Here's something to look forward to if you get your voicemail stutter tone back: I deleted all of my voicemail 18 hours ago and the stutter tone is still there.

Yep - I got my stutter tone back, but now it persists even after deleting all the voice mail.
All these gremlins and I don't even have the new firmware 1.00.58 yet!!
I wonder what that will break? javascript:emoticon('

I started having this problem yesterday as well. I haven't changed anything in my setup.
I've had
Vonage
for about 9 months and if it isn't one thing it's another. I've had two router replacements, dropped calls, and now this. I think it's time to call it quits.

I also had the problem of a stutter tone when there were no voice mail messages in my mailbox.
On the advice of
Vonage
CS, I removed the voice mail stutter tone by doing the following.
1. Called my
Vonage
phone and left a test VM message
2. Logged into my
Vonage
web account
3. DISABLED voice mail
4. ENABLED voice mail (creates a new XML config file)
5. Called 123* on my
Vonage
phone
6. Deleted the voice mail message
The stutter tone went away.
