Here's an update on the flashing phone light issue. I called Vonage support and got another guy who said it was unusual for the phone light to be flashing. He walked me through a soft reset of the RTP300 router and instantly the phone light stopped flashing and it's a steady light now. The phone light only flashes when I make a call.

I now connected to the wall jack but I still don't get a dial tone. Makes me wonder if the jack that I'm plugging into has gone bad.

I still stick my my theory that you disconnected that jack most likely at the NIC especially after looking at the pictures. Perhaps rewire that mess- but I digress.

Can you trace the wires from the jack? FInd out where they go? Looks like three wires coming in from the mesh thing to the black side.
What are those wires along the cable? Gray side apears to be telco side so any other wire connected there should (if I am correct) be connected to black side-of course double checking that all telco wiring is disconnected.

I agree. I couldn't make head nor tails out of the pictures, but I think it's likely that the jack you're plugging into got disconnected somehow.

Now that the flashing light mystery is behind us, the fact that the "splitter trick" gave you a working phone at the same time that the adapter is plugged into the wall indicates that the house wiring isn't knocking the adapter out. (The splitter trick does still work, right?) That pretty much makes it a sure thing that the wall jack you're using isn't connected to the rest of the house. Can your line tester verify that? Is there any way for you to try plugging the adapter into another jack?

Hey, guys I think it's time to start a visual inspection of your wall jack wires. You can never tell if at some time in the past someone wired this jack for a second line. I see two PSTN lines coming into the house. It's simple enough to get a screwdriver and remove the wall jacks to inspect wires.

Good Luck.

IF your other phones do not work, then there may be a problem with your house wiring itself. Even if it's not knocking the adapter out, it may be transmitting insufficient charge. (That happened to me when I moved into a new place). Or perhaps you should just get a new adapter.

It's weird, since it seems like you're having problems only after you disconnected the SBC service.

Sweet Distro!

I would say first thing is to check the wiring going into the house and ensure that they have continuity between the jacks. Do you know if it is a star or downstream configuration?

If there is not continuity, ensure that the jacks are on the same line. If they are, you have two options. Trace the break, and repair it or replace the existing wiring
If they are not, swap the lines

If there is continuity, then it still probably is a problem with the wiring. If you do not want to replace the TA [which is only a temporary fix], the wiring should be replaced. This is not a very difficult task.

If you want some immediate assistance over the phone, PM me, and I would be happy to call you, or provide you with my number Wink
